Did you put the fog file in the users>library>application support> gimp folders? I use McGimp, and not all python plug ins will work in OS X, but many do.

I did not. My understanding is that Fog is supposed to be a standard plugin and as such is installed wherever it is supposed to be automatically.

That said, I double checked the file path you mentioned and I have found two folders

~/Library/Application Support/Gimp/2.8/ (4.6 Mb for 193 items)
~/Library/Application Support/Gimp-2.8/ (44.7 Mb for 2185 items)

Both seem to contain pretty similar items at first glance and I'm guessing I have two folders because I installed GIMP a number of times (2.6, 2.8.6, 2.8.14 at least).

The plugin folder in both folders is empty except for the stuff I downloaded, so the default plugins are probably located elsewhere. After all, even though I don't find Fog, I do have plenty of plugins available.

Thanks,
Stefan

2ton thank you for bringing your experience with mac to this thread, do you think that some python files need to be made executable as in this reminder

Note! (maybe necessary) make the .py file executable on Mac OS X, via chmod +x ez-perspective.py
(can also do by right-clicking and changing “Properties”)

Actually, I read this reminder and tried that. The error the Console gave me was:

dyld: shared cached file was build against a different libSystem.dylib, ignoring cache

This is just mumbo jumbo to me. Using Get Info and changing Properties did not seem to do anything. The plugin was set to open with IDLE.app and I changed it to Python launcher 2.7.2. After launch, it was set back to IDLE.app.

Not sure if this will help, because my package looks quite a bit different, but I can right-click on the GIMP app icon to select 'Show package contents' and then I can go to:

Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/interpreters

This directory contains two files:
- default.interp
- pygimp.interp

Open the pygimp.interp file with your text editor then copy and paste the code here in code tags please.

Here's what the file pygimp.interp looks like:

python=/usr/bin/python
/usr/bin/python=/usr/bin/python
:Python:E::py::python:

if its a python file it needs to go in the plug ins folder. Same path but not in scripts in plug ins...I wrote some tutorials re this back in the day...and struggled with it for a time...but I think that if you have thenewer version of gimp it may help...adding scripts and things though can conflict with the new version if they are already included in the build...so, home folder/library/application support/gimp 2.8/ plug-ins

Just an added suggestion. I am happily using the newer GIMP 2.8.14 from http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/News/News.html

That's precisely where my plugin is located!

Would it help to deinstall everything and start over? Is there a tool/script that would do this and not forget anything?

Thanks,
Stefan

Thanks for the link - interesting stuff there! I'll check it out in more detail once I finally have a working EZ-plugin installation. This is driving me crazy!

On this site it says that GIMP 2.8.14 will not run on Snow Leopard (my OS), instead the latest one is 2.8.10. Now I already installed 2.8.14 as was recommended above and I think I better start off with a clean slate. I have not yet installed 2.8.10.

Does anyone know of a tool to completely remove GIMP and related files, because my problem could be too many (conflicting) installations.

Thanks,
Stefan

This is really a different question, so I'll move that to a new thread. Thanks to everyone for their input so far!

Well folks, I can close the thread... I finally got it to work. I de-installed GIMP and reinstalled 2.8.10 from the link at lisanet found above in this thread (thanks akky!) and now I not only have Fog which was strangely absent from my other copies, but EZ-perspective is working also. So python is healthy (and probably was all along).

I can now finally go back to work on my project! :yes

Thanks to everyone for helping me out!!

Stefan
