What are your most and least favourite scripts, filters or plugins?
Do you think that there are a lot of frivolous fiters eg, under File |Create. The only one I use regularly is File |Create from Clipboard. Some imported favourites are Calender, Chisel and the Bevel and Emboss.
I have Gmic but very seldom use it.
I think there is a lot bloatware in Gimp filters, scripts and plugins that are very seldom used and that it would a good idea if some were discarded. A prime example would be the "Van Gogh" filter. Filters |Artistic |Van Gogh (special effects that nobody understands)
That is not to say that I do not appreciate the work done by the script writers. They do a fantastic job and I will acknowledge the following persons in no particular order Samj, RobA, Saulgoode, Ofnuts and Graechan who are regular contributors on this site.

So which scripts do you use most or least. What do you think could be culled and what scripts need to be enhanced or updated?

It's a recurring question. Pareto's law says that 20% of the filters are used by 80% of the people, and 80% of the filters are used by 20% of the people. So you could theoretically remove a lot of filters, and every user would complain about his missing cherished filter...

Use G'MIC the most for way too many reasons. Nearly use some preset in G'MIC for every edit that I do. :)

When I see scripts and what they do, I decide what advantage they are to me, then I add them to my scripts and plug-ins. When I see ones I know I will never use, I don't put them into my computer. Right now I am in the process of removing a lot of scripts I added in the past that I never use.

As far as the ones that came with Gimp, I left them alone because I have never taken the time yet to find out if they have to stay in order to keep Gimp running well.
A good idea is to put all the scripts you don't use into a folder of their own and name them old scripts and plug-ins. You can always get them back that way.

If understood correctly, you're talking about GIMP pre-installed scripts and plugins?
I use Blur filter (guassian) more often than any other filter.
Scripts - Layer to image size. Actually I prefer 3rd party 'All layers to image size', keep wondering why it is not in vanilla version yet.
There are two dozens of other useful plugins that i use more or less frequently.
Just recently got rid of 2/3 of 3rd party plugins and scripts that i practically never use.

Edit. Forgot to mention, my favorite and most useful function in GIMP - Ctrl-Z :hehe

@K1T, It looks like it is okay to remove scripts and plug-ins that came pre-installed. I was never sure of that. This is very handy to know, thank you.

Edit: My favorite script is sg-combine background and his overlay. Second is bevel and emboss

Strange that you asked this question today. I was only thinking today that 'Used some scripts a lot when they first came out now I don't at all'. Then I may at a later time. As for everything else in gimp I don't know everything it holds yet.
I still don't know everything in G'MIC but I would have to say the Array filter would be the one i have used the most but that is changing.

@ Molly it may be risky remove bundled filter or script, or even brush pattern or gradient , the risk is to break some plugin script or function that expect that in place .

As example are filter that may use any gradient , any BUT if that 1 used by default is missed, the script/plugin may abort

Time ago i started a discussion on the developer list asking why the Van Gogh filter was still there, even if apparently useless
But then was somehow proven that was not useless, i am still convinced that is unusable , the use that was found would be require a preview, the filter offer none so it is , for my meter , unusable but not useless.

I can't see bloatware but i saw lot of obsolete and/or buggy "logo" script:
script fu is limiting for logo effect (i.e....no preview ! ) but there are many cool "third party" logo scripts , instead many of that bundled are crappy or buggy

But it is a exception for the rest i didn't notice nothing to delete

Yes are many that most likely I will never use, BUT the list of the filters that most likely would be never uses differs totally from user to user

I keep all mine zipped in my script manager and grab them when i need them. :)
As for plugins i know if i take one out i will need it the very next day so they stay installed. :lol

My favorite i don't have one. The ones i use most are probably Shellout, autocrop all layers, and Gaussian Blur.

My favorite script is bumpmap, Bevel and Emboss. But what I hate most of all is patterns and brushes (you have to download the whole pack of brushes) that you only use once or twice. Anyway, how can someone learn the artistic side of GIMP by using users' scripts?

The most common filters for me would be Blur and solid noise, least used would be the bulk of the artistic filters.

my most used filter is 'Gaussian Blur'
next is 'BumpMap'

i dont really think there are filters that should be deleted, but some need improvement
the 'Lighting Effects' filter for example is excellent, but the preview is way too small (although this can be hacked)

in G'MIC im now using 'Smooth [anisotropic]' the most
and this is really thanks to monsoonami`s chrome tutorial on youtube
otherwise this filter would have remained a mystery to me, which is sadly G'MIC`s greatest weakness

my most used script/plug-in is obviously the 'layerfx' Bevel
i wish they could get rid of the bug that kills the journal

next is the 'Text along path' plug-in

a few weeks ago i deleted most of the text-effect-scripts i have
i dont use them and i dont need them
in fact i hate push-button effects, but thats just me

i have most of ofnuts`plug-ins installed, because they are all great and extremely useful
when i think of it, ofnuts work cant be praised enough !

G'MIC is number one and bump map is number two.

It's hard to say there are usually different combinations, probably Curves. I often use G'MIC but that's like saying the Filters menu.

The one I don't believe I've ever used (and it's been around since GIMP 1.x days) is Van Gogh (LIC). Just don't get this preset. Maybe someone here can help explain it to me. :)

There has been some heated debate on the dev mailing list about dropping it. But I don't remember the outcome.

Another question is "what is the most overlooked filter?"

I use Bevel Reflect logo, a lot as well a the beautify plug in

I have become fond of the Dream smoothing feature in Gmic

I also like the Psychedelic Glass also in Gmic

There are probably more plugins I will never use than, the ones I do use
And often wonder to my self, What the H---l would you ever use that one for :gaah

Another one I am very fond of is Plastic and glass
I like to make Wallpapers/Desktop backgrounds, and I do a lot of font work
