IIRC,
there is a script somewhere to add a reflection in water.

Yes there is a script for that.

It's called "Water Reflection" by Diego Nassetti.
:hehe

What do you mean your computer does not support apng? Apng is only a file format, it's not anyhow related to computer or operation system.
I don't get the idea why one would convert a short animation loop into a long video though, but here's one workflow for Win:
1. Create the animation in gimp
2. Export all layers to png image sequence (there are multiple plugins for this)
3. Open first image in VirtualDub (free small video editor/converter), following images in same folder will be added automatically.
- Video->compression (choose video codec)
- Video->frame rate (must be specified)
- Video->filters add: null + resize (size must be in supported proportion of the coded you're using)
- Audio (no audio)
- file-> Save as AVI

PS. Vertical videos suck :hehe

It is in a way, not all (many) browsers support the apng format.

AFAIK chrome/chromium based do not support, but Firefox should work. You might need to download this one to try it.

When it comes to the Gimp apng plugin, in linux this stopped working for me post Gimp 2.6. There are alternatives. I use a java application.

Safari does not support apng. And the only reason for not being thrilled with a gif is because it looks posterized.

Finally got a chance to redo this little project. With all the help, I was able to figure out how to do the reflection and the wave action. Not as perfect as I would want, but good enough for this little project.

I think you've done well 2-ton.
It's a success!
:jumpclap

As you probably already know.
The more frames used,
the smoother the water rippling will look.
Of course... the more frames you add,
the larger the file size gets.

Nice creation, 2-ton.
Just a little note, if you don't mind:
- add more colour (and contrast, which generates more details) to the foreground figure: being the "foreground" should be more in evidence and the colours can help in that.

To show what I mean (taken one frame and added saturation and contrast to the body)

More color does look nicer, but I don't want to redo it, lol. I'll have to remember that for next time!

Not that I will do it, but I was wondering if there is a way to make this project more complicated. What I am envisioning is to have the water ripple, as it already is, but also have the stars and rays twinkle in the sky, and maybe even have the chest rise and fall with breathing. Is this doable in Gimp?

Sure it's doable with Gimp,
but the real question is...
Who's going to take that project on?

Lol, if I had any idea of how, I might consider it, but I am pretty chuffed that I got the water to ripple!

One might create an animation for the water ripple,
one for the stars and rays and yet another for the breathing.
Then it would be a matter of combining all these animations into one.

Good Luck,
to whomever gives this a go.

By the way...

I had to google the word "chuffed".

Does PhotoMaster know about this? He likes difficult animation mixtures?

Good question Pat625.

Maybe he'll chime in on this.
Hint, hint... ;)

The twinkling stars shouldn't be hard at all. The breathing could be tricky. This is my first attempt at a breathing animation, using a gridded sphere as a reference . I used a displacement map but I think it would be much better with a bump map. Will post something when I get the bump to work.

Thats actually pretty darn good if you can keep the outside of the body in the same place in all frames.
