would it be possible to write a script for a brush, that uses a filter like Solid Noise but as a brush ?

that would give you a custom grunge effect, that can be changed with your usual Solid Noise sliders
additonal sliders for brush size would be good
the white bits would have to be transparent

It sounds cool, but what would you do about some parts of the image not needing grunge? For example, let's say you wanted to grunge out a brick wall behind a person. Would you just select the brick wall only and apply the filter to the selection?

the idea is not to have a filter

the idea is to have a brush that does several kinds of grunge, which can be regulated with sliders, according to what level of grunge you need

I am not sure this is worth scripting but I have attached a grunge brush I created to do smoke and clouds that I am sure I used solid noise at 10, when done on a new layer you could control opacity and layer mode.

if you look at this picture, you have nine different types of Solid Noise
all of them could be scaled up and down, so you wpuld have to make a few brushes to get all the variety

if we had this script, we would need no brushes and had endless variations
