I believe was compiled also for 64bit, and works very well

Using RiOT which, imo, is a far better plugin then export to web or anything else GIMP has. The only two plugins I haven't got working in 2.8 64-bit is Filter Factory Convertor (haven't tried) and Liquid Rescale (probably not compatible with GIP 2.8 unfortunately; awaiting someone else who got it to work in 2.8 64-bit and then will ask them how they did it). :)

edit: got user filter installed too --> http://registry.gimp.org/node/10902#comment-9040

Yes; you also have to point to the directory where you stored these files if they are not in your main directory (I added the directory path under the Preference>plugins settings much like how I had to add Mathmap directory too. You also need some guf files which I added all the ones that I already had in GIMP 2.6. :)

Once you see the user filter, you need to run the filter and in there add the guf directory. The problem I'm having is the filter doesn't save this location so each time I run the filter, I have to add the guf directory. Haven't figured out why yet; maybe another bug. :)

I tried SAMJ's compile (http://www.aljacom.com/~gimp/gimp-plugi ... 64bits.zip) too but it does the same thing. I'm tempted to try the 32-bit version and see if that fixes this issue; too tired to experiment now though but might tomorrow. :)

Don't bother Graechan; just tried the 32-bit version too; get the same old dosbox popup that I got with GIMP 2.6 but it works until you re-open the filter. Have to add the path to the gufs again. Must be a weird bug interaction with user filter and GIMP 2.8 so whoever maintails the user filter will need to update it I'm afraid. Same for LqR too. Not holding my breath. :)

I belive nobody is mantaning the User Filter

About the GUF my friend Francois Collard converted in GUF all the possible FF filters (literally all, was more simple than make a selection are a bit more than 3.000 )

you may found on my old Deviantart Gallery with name "Filter Factory Converter " in the ZIP there is the full GUF package in its own folder

Quote:

No strictly needed only one of that file is for the plugin, the other are Command line utilities (to batch convert ffl in Guf and similar tasks) that can't be called from the plugin (but from command line)
Anyway put in the same place may be a good idea even if they will pop out some (more) flashing Windows when loading gimp

Graechan i am curious to see if you would make ssome use of the GUF

i explain better in the filters you will found as example a filter that add very nice yellow glow effect in the image center

then you will found another that instead add a red glow, also in the image center

and looking better others for green, orange, bluish (ect, etc) glow

That because the old FFF code was very limited, even in themax number of letters they may contain in the code

GUF were created to eliminate this limitations (a bit as for the FilterMeister code used by most PS filters,) , so as example a GUF
filter for glow may not only allow to chose the glow colour but even to offset the effect

IN THEORY: in pratice the only GUF around are just the automatic conversion of the of FFF , AFAIK nobody yet tried to use them to take advantage of the improved syntax.

you will found many other examples similar to the "glow" filters...so that number 3000 give a false impression, because many are in group that may be integrated in a single filter

i mean many FFF may become a single more powerful and flexible GUF filter

This is one of the reasons i use Filters Unlimited and Filter Meister through PSPI now.
Same filters, and less problems. :)

Graechan,
Thanks for posting all this info. I just installed 2.8 64 bit on my Windows 7 machine, but I don't see a 32 folder? I looked under Program files/Gimp 2.8 and also Program Files (x86)/Gimp 2.8. I only saw a Bin folder under the first. I also looked in users/username/Gimp 2.8, but no 32 folder. Am I looking in the right place? Should I create the folder if it is not there, and exactly what should I name it and where should I put it.

Also, do the mathmap folder and the other mathmap (plugins) folder get put in the Program Files/Gimp 2.8 or in the users/username/Gimp 2.8 areas?

Hey Charlie; the beauty is you can place all your plugins (whether 32-bit or 64-bit) in the same location and that be your plugins directory in your user profile directory {/user/your_account/.gimpXX/plugins, where XX is you version of GIMP of course, in my case it's .gimp2.8}. :)

Thanks Lyle,
So, plugins can be placed in either the, for lack of a better term, root directory or my user directory? I was confused since Graetchen had the following readme file in the downloaded 7zip file in the first post of this thread. Here's what it says:

The MMInstsall folder has 3 folders inside
1 32-folder place files in bin folder inside your 32/bin folder
2 mathmap-folder place entire folder in .gimp-2.8 folder
3 plugins-folder place entire mathmap folder inside in your .gimp-2.8 plugins folder
Next you must create a new path in preferances-Folders-Plugins for your .gimp-2.8/plugins/mathmap folder
-------------------Now restart and you should have mathmap------------------

I'm still confused as to where the 32-folder is to be placed. I have looked in the above-mentioned sections of my Windows system (see my last post), but don't see a 32/bin folder.

Second, does it matter where I place the mathmap-folder; she says to place it in the .gimp-2.8 folder, does that mean what you said, in either the program files/gimp 2.8 folder or my user/username/gimp 2.8 folder?

Thanks

Here are my file locations and my plugin location assignments Charlie. I just placed everything Mathmap in one directory with my mathmap expressions actually located in my user>.gimp2.8 root directory (didn't show that). :)

Sorry to be such an idiot about this, but do you mean that the 32 folder should also go inside the mathmap folder in my users/username/gimp 2.8/plugins folder? Or does the 32 bin folder that contains the .dll's go somewhere else?

(edit) I put the contents of Graetchen's plugins folder and 32 folder inside the mathmap folder, and then put the mathmap folder inside my users/username/.gimp-2.8/plugins folder. Lastly, I added the path in my preferences. But, it doesn't show up, so I'm thinking Graetchen's 32 folder needs to be put somewhere else, in some bin. Anyway, I'll wait for your response and see if my newbie mind can understand it. :lol By the way, by "mathmap expressions" which folder do you mean?

Forget about the 32 folder; it's a none issue (and it's not located in your user profile directory; it's located in the GIMP directory and please don't put anything there; keep it prestine as possible). To install Mathmap, I placed all of Graechan's Mathmap files in User/{my user name}/.gimp2.8/plugins/mathmap and put all of Mathmap's custom presets in User/{my user name}/.gimp2.8/mathmap (see below for that example). I then added User/{my user name}/.gimpt2.8/plugins/mathmap to the Plugins folders as I pointed out earlier. After you re-run GIMP, it will be there. :)

Lyle I don't think a 32 folder is created if you don't have a 32bit gimp previously installed in which case place the 3X32bit dll's 'shown in 32 / bin' in the plugins folder, this hypothesis is impossible to test by me unless I purchased a new PC.
Maybe parta's 2.8 will include the 32 folder?,or use a portable.
