I'll bet if you remove file-png from the system's plug-in folder (C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\), control will be directed to the new apng-plugin by default when saving and loading, with no need to specify APNG+PNG.

Yeah, I think it should be safe to do so. At least I see that a lot of code in this file-apng plugin is directly borrowed from file-png plugin sources. So I would expect it to load and save static PNG images without problems too.

P.S. I found why "fcTL don't match IHDR" error sometimes happens while saving, it should be fixed in the next (0.2.0) version of the plugin.

Thanks for looking into this. I got it to work on my work computer and will test it again at tonight at home. However, I am unable to remove the plugin and still have it work. Am really excited about being able to use animated pngs, as animation is my thing and I want the best quality possible. Thanks again for your help!

So far, I haven't had any issues saving standard PNGs with the APNG-Plug-in.

This info is from the plug-in developer...
Quote:
First frame must be full size (and second frame must be full size too, if first frame is hidden).

I received the "first frame's fcTL don't match the ones in IHDR" error when the top layer in my layer dialog was not the same size as the overall image. Resizing the layer to the image size is an easy workaround.

I'm looking forward to the next release of this plug-in. :2thup

Checked it out again last night on my home machine and still doesn't work. I've got Windows 7 on that one; wonder if that has anything to do with it.

that is strange. I couldn't get it to work in Gimp 2.6 but when I took it out and put it in 2.0, it worked....after I rebooted the pc..

Well, I didn't have much time to play with it last night, but I'll try again this evening.

I decided not to wait for for 0.2.0, and fixed it in the current version (first post updated).

Yeah, I just updated it.

You should update only if you have problems with apng saving. If not, don't bother.

It's only one small fix, nothing serious.

Has anyone besides FencePost tried installing this apng in Windows 7 ???

If so, we would like to know if you had any luck with it.
So far, we know that it works in Windows XP but still waiting for feedback on Windows 7....

Good news - developer uploaded my compiled binaries to the official project page:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-apng/files/

So now we should expect a few hundred downloads from that page, quite soon.
And more feedback from Windows users, hopefully.

Good job, MaxSt!!! Bet there's going to be more than a few hundred.

By the way, thank you for doing that. You've made a lot of people happy.

Rod and Molly, those are cool.

Rod, did you do your elephant in gimp by some chance? If so, would sure like to know how you did it. It would make a cute avatar. :hehe
