Dinasset: Tried a few more but not real improvement. With your rose, you can see clearly that it is a well defined rose. Also the leaves and stem are quite defined. I cannot achieve that. I tried different amounts of colors, and changed layer modes. Here is the original and a result.

Hi Pat,
is this something you like better?

If so, I did the following:
1-run modLCS on the image before using the CrystallizeN filter
2-run the CrystallizeN filter, default setup
3-change Mode of the top layer to Burn

Yes, I do like that better, Dinasset. Thank you. I will try your method and see if I get the same results. Thanks again.

I did my test with your "Hibiscus", Pat. I removed the background of the flower and put it on a black layer. After that I ran the filter CrystallizeN. I think you are looking for that black result in the background. On the other hand, I play with layers and layer modes and sometimes the result is very nice too. :)

And on the same photo, applied CrystallizeN which gives always so good results. :)

Here is my repeat test: I used Dinassets instructions but I put it on a black layer as you suggested, Issabella.

that's good, Pat; you experimented the opposite way (light BG) successfully...

Thank you, Dinasset. The bird had too much black for a dark background.

it's the correct way to think about "contrasting" BG and FG, to get the FG "emerge"...

Thank you, Dinasset & Issabella. I really like to take photos and see what can be done with them with these great filters!

Beautiful!! The horse and rider are so well outlined. Did you use any additional techniques with the image?

Dinasset: I had trouble with the tulips. I don't remember the exact settings I used but changed them many times. If getting too many colors where they are not wanted, do I just decrease the number of allowable colors?
