I've never suggested anything for a plugin but I decided to in this case. It would be nice if
1 gmic could be made so it could be opened full screen.
2 The preview window could be re sized.

1. There is a Maximize button.
2. Have a look here and here. Some filters have a preview type option.

Yeah but you have to reset the zoom every single time.

I'd like to be able to set G'MIC so that each time it is opened, the preview box isn't checked by default. It's annoying when you want to use one filter but your previous filter is taking time to preview again.

By the way, a million thanks - I've been poking around G'mic since version 1.3 and it has been quite the tool in my fractal exploration (see joined sample)

So anyways, here are the suggestions ... all 15 of them (!) ... some may or may not be feasible or make sense. Hopefully someone will find this list useful

1. Ability to navigate filters with keys (now we have to click every single filter)
2. Ability to reset settings to defaults for each filter individually (if I am not mistaken, for the moment, the "Reset" button resets ALL the filters to their default values)
3. Have interface fully keyboard-friendly
4. Be able to sort by update date, by name, by author or by type.
5. Identify new filters after update or upgrade (filter name in bold?)
6. CLEARLY identify if G'mic is running in 32 or 64 bit mode on window title (VERY USEFUL for newbies)
7. Working hyperlinks (when I click it doesn't send the hyperlink to my default browser but link goes purple --> i'm using chrome on win7)
8. Some filters have no description or instructions. Would be nice to have a clickable "(i)" on each filter that would pop-up a description and instructions. Could be a local HTML file?
9. Lock Gimp interface when G'mic is active? Not sure if it's smart but for the moment, when G'mic is active, a user can still work in Gimp and even close the picture on which G'mic is working! Bound to make something crash eventually
10. An installer for newbies! With the capacity to tell users if they are using the 32bit or the 64bit version of Gimp / search all installed versions of Gimp and G'mic / propose an advanced menu where they could choose where to install the plugin / backup the previous version of the plugin?
11. The ability to save, as a separate file, our settings for a particular plugin / our settings for all the plugins.
12. An indication of how much memory G'mic sees and is able to access to process pictures
13. Make use of a swap file if rendering takes more than available memory? (quite a big request, I know)
14. Remember window size / position (could be reset when "reset all filters" is selected)
15. Search or "jump" field where it would be possible to type in a name and jump directly to a particular filter. (Useful now that G'mic has 400+ filters!)

I have a really simple suggestion, and that's to not keep trying to update the preview window while a person is still moving a slider as that just bogs things way down, but instead wait until they've finished moving the slider to its final position and they lift off the mouse button, and then render a new preview.

I usually have the preview turned off. It previews things I don't want to preview.

For many of the faster filters, I want the preview to update automatically without having to keep pressing the Preview update button which annoyingly also puts a check in the box next to it, turning on auto update, and then has to be turned off again, which annoyingly causes the last preview to vanish from the window.

The favorites are stored, as old filters
when time to update, old filters are not update,
making it hard to update G'MIC causing errors,
something needs to be done here I think, just not sure what.

It is indeed apophysis (good guess!)
However it's been massively enhanced, once rendered, with G'mic (and a few interesting "that's not supposed to do that" tricks)

Working on a website to expose them. Been procrastinating on shapes and colors forever it seems (and all the quirkiness HTML and CSS have to offer).

yes faves can't be updated automatically if they get broken by filter update

Anyway the filter update never overwrite the previous definition file , but only create a new one


So , since most of changes that break filter consist in the addition of new options it is possible port old favs with no much pain

1) move away the most recent gmic definition file
(in Vista ,7, 8 are in ...Users/yourname/AppData/Roaming , the most recent has the higher number
2 ) now start Gimp> gmic,
open a image , open the fav(s) you want preserve, and take screenshot(s) of the setting
3) Move back the gmic def file in its place
open again Gimp>Gmic and with the help of the screenshot recreate your favourite settings,
Fav it, and delete the old fav

With a screenshot it is usually easy reproduce the older effect even if new controls are added to the filter, usually new controls give more possibilities but all the previous remain available

As far as I can see, the gmic_faves file (containing the favs) is easily editable (Wordpad, Textedit, vi). Each line is one entry. Why not correcting the list of parameters at the end accordingly {p1}{p2}...{pn} for a changed function ?

I think the major problem is to find the file! Under Mac it's in ~/.gmic_faves . Under Windows PhotoComix gave the path.
