Here is a link to check out his xorg.conf file.
https://privatepaste.com/60d7e8dca8
Could someone check it out and tell me if it is correct.

His problem is display drivers.

Thanks.

Here it is in code blocks.

Hi Rod.
Since a long time ago in most of cases is no longer needed using the xorg.conf. Kernel Mode Setting (KMS) detect your hardware and load the necessary modules. That xorg.conf you are showing is very extensive, very confusing. You do not use it.

Have you tried removing the xorg.conf and to see if the system load properly?

What is your video card?
lspci | grep -i vga

How many monitors/screens do you have connected to the computer?

YAFU, if one is using multiple monitors then it is entirely appropriate (necessary, even) to create an xorg.conf file.

I am not an expert on Xorg by any means, especially since the new Kernel Mode Setting changes; however, the devices specified in the pastebin file seem amiss. As of a couple years ago (I don't know if things have changed), one could not have both KMS and framebuffer device support built into the kernel, let alone using them simultaneously.

It might be helpful to have a more elaborate description of the problem, the hardware, and the setup, as well as see the contents of the /var/log/xorg.0.log file

Not sure if it's just the screen resolution that's the problem, 1366-768 is one that apparently is not available in the drop down list for resolutions sizes. To add different sizes I found this link http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 3&t=130595 It's for a script, not one I've tried out myself, might be worth a look though.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I appreciate it. This had been giving me hell for almost 2 weeks now. I even had to figure out how to write the configuration file myself, since the default generated one was not good enough.
A few things I tried were

1. that 'lspci' command, which detected my intel processor, as it should
2. 'lnsmod' for detecting appropriate modules
3. and also 'cvt 1366 768 60'; 'xrandr --newmode'; 'xrandr --addmode' then 'xrandr --output' for setting the display

I was finally able to get it to work like this:
`service mdm stop && X -configure && mv /root/xorg* /etc/X11/xorg.conf && service mdm start`

This created a new xorg.conf and finally correctly detected my resolution. Not sure why, but it seems to work fine now after rebooting and I would rather not mess with it further. The smallest typo probably was the culprit, as it is with all scripting languages. >.<

Good to know, and welcome to the forum arch!

@saulgoode, Are you sure? Last year I had to configurra a PC with two screens, and I do not remember having to configure a xorg.conf. Just from the screen configuration module in KDE (Kubuntu). But I do not remember.

Thanks for the welcome, I posted an intro as well.

As for the logs, they didn't show me what was going on, even after grepping for what seemed like hours :/
Most computers nowadays detect displays, especially for dual monitors, quite easily.
