After Ink Wash and Graphic Novel, now also Graphic Boost is how i had dreamed.

Changes:
1)
to allow visual control on each step, now each step has a escape option
So is possible always switch from a global preview, from a "step" preview
(i hope the concept is clear: assuming that gmic works with virtual layers, you may not only have the preview of the combination ,the final result, but also check what you are doing on a single layer.

"Preview" is here reductive, it is possible not only see but also output the result of each step)

2)
Merging option:
added Grain Merge , (not yet available at time of the previous version) adapted Value to the new speciphics

Doing last testing just now,but seems all the options works as should.
i will edit this message to add before/after examples and screenshoot, i will upload soon the new code

To Do:

1)
A video presentation
2)
Port the best presets for Graphic Boost (as for Graphic Novel) to the new versions :seeya

Does this update in G'MIC? How do I know if I have the old one or the new one? I updated and I see it listed in Faves and also in Artistic but not in PhotoComix.

Short answer:
if you enabled my source in About/additional filters that mean here

Attachment:
Screenshot - 25_04_2011 , 04_19_53.png
Screenshot - 25_04_2011 , 04_19_53.png [ 194 KiB | Viewed 4079 times ]

then the filter will show up in the "PhotoComix" submenu close to the bottom of filter list so here

But not yet, i got lost by testing images (and more browsing and downloading image to test )
well i may upload in a few minutes

the code is ready except that i can't decide for the best deafault,...now i explain why maybe somebody has a good suggestion i use as example this mushroom

Now this may be the "safest" default, meaning that will give accettable results NOT ONLY with this, BUT ALSO with very different type of images.

BUT this at cost of speed (here i enabled 2 different kind of smoothing ) and of details
For image as this (without large uniform area without details) i may offer more speed and MUCH more details

Both *Graphic Novel* and *Graphic Boost* are very powerful and flexible, that also means that may be adapted to most different type of images ...but also that is quite possible get lost experimenting different settings

I will consider my work really complete only when will be ready a couple of dozen of good preset for each filter, and a Video presentation, because with a Video i may explain more easily and clearly how they work

but that will take some more times as now you may follow my experiment here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocomix-mandala/ and at soon i will get up (here are AGAIN 05.30 AM and only the right part of my brain is still sort of working...the other ,that for rational thinking is noisily snoring ...better avoid to deal with servers now, even something simple as copy and paste require a bit of active brain cells )

humm ...another preview on this amazing lizard

ORIGINAL

anyway i only need 8 h sleep, a good breakfast, and a shower ...after both side of the brain should start to work again and the new version will be on the server, and will pop out after refreshing filters
