LightZone for Gimp

If anyone is interested, here is the lightzone plugin for gimp:

I ran a search on bing for lightzone plug in for gimp and this YT video popped up first on search: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVNnpiaaf04

It works for GIMP 2.10.10 Windows 10 64 bit.
Once installed the filter can be found: Filters>Photography>Lightzone

Another update, the plugin is installed, but I get an error when trying to run it using either option: new from visible or current layer. I use a jpg image.

The error I get is this:

I get the same thing.
It's obviously looking for something that isn't there,
but I haven't a clue what that might be.

I think that Lightzone would need to be installed.

Well, that is interesting since the video doesn't mention the need for lightzone installation... just the lightzone.py file. The site doesn't mention that lightzone has to be installed either.

Didn't you read the small print?
Oh, never mind.
The print was so small,
it was invisible to the naked eye. :hehe

I see no other way to be abl;e to use this plugin,
without having the Lightzone application installed.

This is generally call a caveat,
which is often left unmentioned.

I went to the lightzone website and they require a 3 step registration.
In order to download and use this software.
Yet another caveat.

I noticed that too. I have never heard of an open source program so rigid with installation.

Yeah,
it's not worth the trouble to me,
but that doesn't mean much to those who really want to try it.

I get that,
but this is their requirements and people do join.
Perhaps to only get access to the software,
but once you join,
they then have your registration data.
Which they can use however they like.

Right, I agree,
but it's not as strange as you might think.

If you listen to the video very carefully in the beginning.
It does say that,
"the plug-in will manage photos form GIMP to Lightzone and back again".
Which to me,
implies without saying,
that you need to have Lightzone.

I've tried LightZone in the past on Linux. To install LightZone in Linux:

sudo apt-get update

I'm using Windows 10 64 Bit.. it seems that users have to register & join their forum in order to use it.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. I consider Gimp much more useful. If you want to play with some good free s/w, try out DarkTable.
