Hello everyone
I want to use GIMP to create several images I need for a scientific project illustration.
Could you please help me to find a way to convert simple gradient area to leveled or layered area with fewer colors just like an example I attached.

For the gradient bit I would open G'Mic and put 'gradient' into the search box. This will give you filters like 'Contours > gradient norm'
I would use Colors > Desaturate to remove colors.

You can use the filter : Colors/Posterize, control the levels to get how many layers do u want. :gimp
