Could be the way the new version reads the scripts info?
More accurate values possibly?

I don't remember changing much of anything when I released version 1.1. of the script, other than a few default settings and some text changes in the readme but I might have increased the default glass depth. The larger the default glass depth value, the harder/thicker the edges will appear. Try it at 1 or 2 for a thinner edge.

How would someone change this to work on selections instead of on text?

Hallo know that script after this tutorial, but I must have lost and not know if it work in Gimp 2.6 and 2.8.
Is there somebody how have it?

the glass effects in this are a combination of both the scripts here and some other little tricks. the background was samj's spiral script.


edit: i've had three questions on details of this. any more questions and i write a tutorial - consider that a warning!

Basically to have the glass effect POP you need a bg or at least a shadow behind it.
That gives the text depth.So even with your light purple color it would look fine.

About the spiral background, it's very simple: i just made a hexagonal spiral in samj:s script and deleted the stroked layer. then i scaled down one of my spiral paths and made sure it was straight (had to rotate it a little and push a few nodes around but i wasn't perfectionistic about it). then i moved it to the centre of the image and put up guides top and bottom of it, and duplicated the same spiral path over and over and lay it out in a brick pattern by help of the guides. then i merged all the paths and ran ofnuts neon path script on the big path and put a background under it. hope that was any help!

I've received a few PMs asking how to add edge (and other) effects to this script, such as was achieved in example #1 in the first post.

1) After you've ran the script, add a top layer.
2) Tick off the shadow and background, if you've previously chosen to add those.
3) Fill the top layer with a pattern of your choice.
4) Change the mode of the top layer to overlay, burn or whatever gives you the effect you're after.
5 You can tweak the color (hue) and the transparency of the top layer for best results.
6) Merge down the top pattern filled layer with the glass layer.
7) Toggle back on the shadow & background, if needed..

Here is an example of using this approach to enhance the final image to get a cracked and broken glass effect. I used brad font for the text and an ice pattern (ice2) to fill the top layer (overlay mode) in this example.

Did not see any difference, but replaced it with yours anyway.
