Yeah, that Pixlab suggestion doesn't work either. This is a GIMP problem, not a Windows problem.
Yeah, What you really mean is
you can not get it to work. It is not a Gimp problem.
Get a yourself a new user profile. Delete the folder C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\
and start again from fresh.
Since you have been using Gimp for 10 years, if you have a Gimp 2.8 profile C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8 delete that as well to prevent Gimp 2.10 migrating a load of out-of-date settings.
Thanks. But I bought a new laptop a week or so ago. So when I loaded GIMP, there were no old GIMP files. Also, in trying to solve this problem, I've uninstalled and then reinstalled GIMP at least three times. Same problem. I've also tried that recommendation to go into Edit ---> Preferences and reset to default values. That didn't work. And besides, when I do a total uninstall and reinstall of GIMP, I should be starting off at default values, anyway. And, when I reinstalled, I even chose older versions of GIMP, hoping that would do the trick. That didn't work either.
Finally, what do you mean by "I can't get it to work?" Why shouldn't it work properly right out of the box? Why should I have to get it to do anything? I'm confused because your sentence suggests that I'm doing something wrong when I don't think I should have to do anything for the program to do what it's supposed to do.
