Lives back when the Native American's were just in the US we're so simpler, cause back then people we're actually living. You didn't have any laws or anything. Plus when they killed and protected their family, they we're rewarded with a feather. For protecting their family. Now a days you have all these laws, a license to shoot, and not all kids, but a lot have no respect for homeless people, and where I live you see them all the time, but I see kids everyday chucking eggs, rocks, beating these people up, and jacking their stuff.

What's interesting though is the little friends I have that moved out of here, their all doing great. Have a job, house, family, etc: However when they we're here, they we're in the same boat as me.

It will be temporary, you just have to hang onto that. I had a job on Cincinnati back in the 70s. they paid me what would be criminal nowdays and i had to send that home so my then wife could pay bills. i literally lived on the street, for almost a year. I remember the first time I got hungry I stole an orange so I could eat. Another time I had a big meal in a restaurant and then went into the payphone and pretended to be calling from across the street. i asked them if they knew there was smoke coming from their roof. They evacuated the place and I blended into the crowd and got a big free meal. Someday you'll be am old guy telling some young guy about your experiences, hoping it might help him feel at least a little better. You're right, the world is mean and cruel ad unfair, but then nobody ever said it would be fair

Mike, I'm saddened to hear you've found yourself in the situation you're in. I'd like to think if I were in your situation, I'd know what to do but I don't know your reality so it's hard to put myself in your shoes. I'd like to think I'd get out of there and try to make it on my own but I understand that your situation is probably not that simple.

You strike me as an intelligent young guy who has high potential to do whatever you want in life. There are areas in the country where opportunities do exist, if you're willing to take on most any job.

If I were young and fit, I'd love to hike the Appalachian Trail, picking up work as I go. There's an inspiring book entitled: A Walk Across America you might want to check out.

Quote:
"I started out searching for myself and my country," Peter Jenkins writes, "and found both." In this timeless classic, Jenkins describes how disillusionment with society in the 1970s drove him out onto the road on a walk across America. His experiences remain as sharp and telling today as they were twenty-five years ago -- from the timeless secrets of life, learned from a mountain-dwelling hermit, to the stir he caused by staying with a black family in North Carolina, to his hours of intense labor in Southern mills. Many, many miles later, he learned lessons about his country and himself that resonate to this day -- and will inspire a new generation to get out, hit the road and explore.

Good luck Mike and I hope things turn around for you.

Just remember if you do decide to go find yourself to watch what you eat out in the wilderness.Grab a nature book or check one out at the library to get info on edible plants and stuff. There is a good book the army printed on how to get water, food , and shelter just about anywhere.Probably available online.
You will survive Mike. You know how i know? ... Because you are a survivor and that's rare indeed.

On another note have you thought about the military at all?
Have you called any temp services? Many jobs are becoming available through them now.
There is also State Aid.Have you tried signing up for help through them?
If you have graduated and or want to go to more schooling there are Pell grants to get funds for more college books and classes. All which do not have to be re-paid.If you have not graduated you can get a GED free also.
Just a few thoughts i figured i would throw out there that may help you out.

You are young, healthy, and intelligent Mike you can be whatever you want to be.

Oh how i would love to hike across America and live the life of a hobo.Nothing but me and my guitar and a journal.
I would write down all my thoughts and later write a book on my experiences and the people i had met.Might be a best seller!

Ahhh but i got married and had 6 children two of which are still in middle school so those dreams will have to wait.
But you...you have all that right now! :)
Live it up and see the country.. i would!
