We'll try to work on restoring it after 3.0 I think.
I'll look at your script when I have time and see if I notice anything that needs changed with the new API.

GIMP 3 had an string freeze which means no more new text dialogs can be added and translators will be given time to complete everything without worry of new text strings.

oh and btw since Jan 2024 I had a script that automatically compiled GIMP 2.99.19 from Gitlab about 90% of the way, it was made by GIMP dev barefootliam for me. but I recently modified the script using my limited understanding to make it 100% automated. Now I can literally just press a button on my computer and get the latest GIMP 2.99.19 master branch with no manual effort where as before I had to open a text file comment out things with #.

I run it in the script fu console for Gimp-2.99.19 and it throws no errors so i don't know how to debug it. I thought maybe running it with the new interpreter 3.0.0 and placing it in its own folder in the plug-ins folder. Think that would work?

If you put it into the plug-ins folder, you'll need to add this shebang to your script:

#!/usr/bin/env gimp-script-fu-interpreter-3.0

The script then has to go into its own folder, which has the same name but without ending.
So myscript.scm goes to a folder named myscript.
And if you are on linux ... make it executable.

If you do this, you can edit your script and run it again without reloading.

Sadly even that didn't work. Most likely my coding is deprecated somewhere along the line. :hoh

Update, The copy and paste of non-destructive layers just got an update to allow it to work better then ever. Now it works on text layers.
I can copy the NDE text layer and paste it in another composition. I think it is entirely complete and we are very close to RC1.

It appears the crash on close with my plugins is solved for real. Jehan himself; GIMP's lead dev independently confirmed this. I am still cautious but now for the first time there is evidence that the crash is gone and none of us are able to replicate it anymore.

A hidden critical warning in GIMP 2.99.19 that my plugins often triggered was just solved

Before users would receive a :

2.99 (gimp-2.99:164): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:24:59.975: gtk_application_uninhibit: assertion 'cookie > 0' failed

Read about it here, I don't think it had any effect on the software as a whole but its best to be fixed.

Two things to mention about the state of GIMP 2.99.19 over the past 24 hours

1. GIMP 2.99.19 had a silly leftover bug where layer groups could apply filters destructive; which doesn't make logical sense. I filed a bug report and CMYK Student solved it.

Remember I mentioned the patch that would speed up the legacy hsv blend modes? The original failed and now GIMP's team is at it again with a second patch co-authored by CMYK Student and Jehan.

Jehan is trying to trim down the code of the legacy HSV blend modes to make them run as fast as possible; they might still be slow but not extremely slow like they are now. Once done this will take off one of the major blockers.

Two updates to the code base to mention

1. The color space invasion update is now 100% done, before it was like 98-99% done for a few months. The obscure Van Goh plugin was the final plugin to use traces of old GimpRGB. A few days earlier they also removed traces of GimpRGB as well but Van Goh is the final trace TMK.

2. The bmp export dialog had its checkbox settings in reverse; as in options that should be on one area were in the other. The checkbox logic was flipped to solve it

I've noticed some icons missing in the Legacy Icon Theme. They are there in the Default Icon Theme however.

I really like utilizing the Legacy Icon Theme as it is colored. It would be nice to see those Icons in it as well. :hehe
