Hello
I installed samj's portable Gimp: https://samjcreations.blogspot.com/2025/03/gimp-302-portable-gmic-qt-gimp-353.html
on my Windows 10 and I would like to install it on a PC with Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1
Since I'm new to Linux, do I have to put it in a specific folder or can I put it in any folder?

AppImages are the equivalent of Windows portables.
There is an AppImage here but the consensus is it's too big. It contains debug files which it doesn't need to.

@level_0

You can try this one, https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Gimp3 ... 8#pid43608 - If it works, great. If not then delete it .

You can put it in any folder, make sure it is executable and as an initial check run it in a terminal

./gimp_302_deb.AppImage

If that works then try and make a menu entry using the Mint tool Main Menu. - I know, not easy for a new linux user ;)

edit: Just as a hint for a new launcher in Mint 22

I have tried out, a bit, in kubuntu 24.04 & Mint 22 also kubuntu 22.04 (all a bit flakey but working)

https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ... i4AR53vY70 about 95 MB

Includes gmic_gimp_qt 3.5.3 / resynthesizer + heal plugins / FFT Remember - for gmic you need QT5 installed

@Tasmania
There is a note in the gimp log. The debug files will be gone in Gimp 2.0.4 AppImage

Yes, I saw that. I did do my own thing, unpacked the appimage, deleted all the *.debug files (300-and something), then repacked the appimage.

The gimp.org log is here: https://github.com/GNOME/gimp/commit/87 ... 91051cc656

Thanks Tas_mania and rich2005

I'll leave the one on Linux Mint and use samj's Gimp on Windows 10. ;)
