The script I posted has been edited to give no warnings for texture-brickwall in 2.7, and it works fine in the partha64 bit portable but fails in the regular 64 bit install.

This is only a minor irritation:

Using Gimp in windowed mode and the windows is maximized. Now if you close that window and then go back to it whenever the window maximized but does not fit the screen correctly. My guess would be 10px off on the left and about 100-150px on the top.

If I just double click on the title bar it falls back into place. Like I sad just a minor problem.

Thanks for the feedback. Single window mode is still work in progress. I am hoping it will be fixed by the 2.8 release date!

Partha I accept defeat in that some scripts will not work in 2-7-4, but GAP should and JamesH released a 2.7-32bit folder it would be nice to have a 64bit version.

Patient Graechan. :)

Currently I am making sure that tablets work. I will look into GAP after that. Sound good?

Upgraded that too.
Cairo and pango were also giving problems but using a Gentoo tool solved that.
Anyway it's running ok,gutenprint xsane and gmic plugins work.

If you compile from git you know what to expect.
Gerard.

Yes, a lot of work with the new version from git.
In Kubuntu [Ubuntu] Oneiric 11.10 I had to do:

GIMP requires GTK+ >= 2.24.7:
checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.24.7..

Install gtk +-2.24.8.tar.bz2

Gimp requires Pangocairo:
checking for CAIRO... yes
checking for PANGOCAIRO... no
configure: error: Test for PangoCairo failed.

Pangocairo is supposedly in libpango1.0-dev package, but not found.
Install pango-1.29.5.tar.bz2
But pangocairo requires Glib:
checking for GLIB... no
configure: error:
*** Glib 2.31.0 or better is required. The latest version of
*** Glib is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org/.

install glib-2.31.2.tar.bz2

In short, install in the next order:
gtk +-2.24.8.tar.bz2
glib-2.31.2.tar.bz2
pango-1.29.5.tar.bz2
babl
gegl
gimp

Links:

I hope I have not forgotten anything.

@YAFU,
I don't think you forgot anything.
Glad to hear you managed to install it.
Hats off to you for doing it on Kubuntu.
Had it for a while on a separate partition to be able to help a friend in Indonesia.
It's so opaque (geared towards Windows users) compared to Gentoo.
Gerard.

Since I installed the latest version from Git (GNU/Linux) I have lost tablet support. In fact what happens is that Gimp does not detect any device in Edit > Input Devices. Gimp does not generate a new "devicerc" file in my ~/.Gimp-2.7 folder.
I have Gimp installed in /opt. I do not know if that, or a problem with gimp or GTK 2.24.8.

Well as I wrote before I now have Gimp-2.7 on a separate partition and in /usr because of the plugin probs.
The last install was made Nov 24.
I have no problems with my Wacom PT.
The git sources are continuously changing, you might have better luck with a newer one.

You might want to check "lsusb".I don't know if ubuntu installs it by default,if not it's probably somthing like "usbutils".

Hi Gerard.
I do not remember exactly what date I installed the version that required a new version of gtk, but the problem occurs since then. I have updated to date gimp from git.
My hardware is properly detected by the system, and works with Gimp 2.6 and MyPaint.
I start to think that I should install Gimp 2.7 in /usr too.
Thank you.

If you do it will clobber 2.6.
When that's no problem then go ahead.
Gerard.

I was playing with paths and the app exhibited the same behavior on both a P4 PC as with my Core2 Duo with tons of memory and a good video card.

The problems is when anchoring points that are outside of the images border that the anchors disappear. The 2.6 Gimp does not exhibit this behavior.

Do you need anything from me?

I compiled and installed with default paths (just "./configure" without --prefix). Now G'MIC and other plugins work, but still not detecting input devices (only "core pointer"). The file "devicerc" in ~/.gimp-2.7 is not generated (If that file was not in an old configuration).

Have you tried deleting ~/gimp-2.7 directory and then restarting Gimp?
There should be a devicerc even w/o a tablet.
It should at least contain info about your mouse.
Gerard.

No, deleting or renaming the folder the file "devicerc" is not generated. As you say, there should be a "devicerc" even without tablet. If I copy the old "devicerc" file into ~/gimp-2.7 I can see the devices, but pressure not works (Tablet in Screen mode) and any changes I do in "Device Input" window is not taked. My Tablet is a Genius EasyPen i405. As I said before, the tablet works with other programs.I will continue investigating.

Hi gerard82,
I understand that you work with linux more than 10 years, and I have question( I am a beginner linux user) about having gimp 2.6.11 and 2.7.4 on ubuntu 10.04.3 in my case ; I read, viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1261 and viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2643.
I have a single partition in ubuntu, with gimp 2.6.11 and I wish I had also 2.7.4 version. It's okay if I’ll install the second version , in /opt as you described in “viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1261 “ ?
Thanks for any suggestions, Dan

Hi dan,
Yes you can install in /opt but remember that some plug-ins will not work.
For me printing and scanning didn't work + a lot of others I can't do without.
That's why I deleted the /opt install in my regular Gentoo and installed a second instance on a separate partition.
That way I now have printing scanning etc working in both.
It's tedious but I see it as a temporary solution to get aquainted with 2.8 when it arrives and I can install it in main install.
Gerard.

Thanks gerard82,
I'll install the 2.7 version in another partition as you suggested and I'll expect for 2.8,
Dan
