Greetings every1. I am a brand new user to Gimp and have been watching some unbelievable tutorials on it. I was an avid and fierce user of APS CS5 and Gimp is a huge change for me. I look forward to learning from every1 and applying that knowledge to increase my experience.

Welcome to Gimchat Talib. You've come to the right place for help and advice. I'm fairly new here myself and I've never met a friendlier bunch of people on any forum I've joined! CS5 was the first PS to have content aware scaling - well we had it first! Liquid rescale was around for some time before CS5 came out and it's a more comprehensive tool than Photoshop's. One Gimpchat user made two videos on making Gimp look and behave like PS. I'll try and get a link for you.

I just discovered GIMPtricks today and it is great!! I am just trying to get use to the whole layout. I do have one question: If i have an image open and I am rescaling it or moving it etc... on the right side panel it logs all this moves and I hate that. How do I rid of that?

Okay. When Gimp is open, the right side panel that has tool options and layers, etc... Now in the layers section, every scale or move I make with an image is documented. Like it will say scale layer...moved layer, etc... even when I play with text, it does the same thing...beveled text or shadowed text. Everytime I watch a tutorial, I never see that on theirs. U get what I am trying to say?

It sounds like you are referring to the undo history. It logs it so that you can go back to any stage you want to. If you really don't like it, you can just drag the tab away and close it, or you can just hide it by selecting one of the other tabs next to it. It's probably a good idea to keep it open so that you can clear some memory every now and then.

Thats exactly what I am referring to. I didnt know how to rid of it...thanx. It was driving me insane. I am so use to how CS5 operates that every nitch I am not use to drives me nuts..lol

Another question if I may...I see people having Gimp look different. Like GIMPtricks is black and I have seen some green. How do I do that?

Hi and welcome to Gimp Chat.

What you are referring too are called Themes.
You can download a program for Windows named Themes here.

Just install it and open the shortcut on your desktop - simply choose a theme and there you go.
Restart Gimp and the theme will be the one you selected.
The black or dark themes are usually Aurora Midnight.

I appreciate the link but I rid myself of windows awhile ago. I use Ubuntu which is a distro for linux.

There have been several posts made concerning the 2.8RCI.
Apparently, a lot of members have it already. I downloaded in my Windows but there were several scripts that wouldn't work so I deleted it. It looks to me that there is mixed negative and positive feedbacks on this version.
