Yes, I will now officially admit this. Win7 is the best OS that Microsoft ever conceived; XP the second. I combine the two so I have the best of both worlds. Win8 is a mistake as it is in it's current form which I doubt will get back to real. Win7 may indeed be my last Windows OS if Microsoft don't get their head out of their rear end. Personally, Ubuntu is rock solid now if you ask me. Now that it appears Photoshop has gone off the cliff and GIMP will have higher bit depth with the 2.10 release (which I believe is going to be fast tracked), the sky's the limit for Open Source. My comfort zone is still M$ Windows, but I can stand a little discomfort in order to be completely weened off M$.

Problem for me is my computer is a little slow for regular Ubuntu. It's not bad but Xubuntu runs more smoothly. Given a choice, I would have Ubuntu with gnome. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers!

^^ In that case why not go all the way to Lubuntu...

Personally I'm completely appalled by the actions of microsoft... I don't want to buy any microsoft product out of principle. If I ever buy a new computer that has a windows installed I'm going to return the windows and get a refund for it (apparently that's something you can do, although most computer vendors don't really advertise it).

But if you think the secure boot thing is scary, wait until you hear about NGSCB, microsoft's plan for so-called "Trusted computing"...

Enjoy the reading, guys.

I still have my Ubuntu disc.....somewhere in that drawer over there. :)
If it gets that bad i'll install it and upgrade it.

But i actually have a lot of fun cross compiling src code on Windows.
Makes me feel naughty like i am doing something behind windows back... :lol

What I've seen of Windows 8, I fail to see how it will be effective with a standard mouse and keyboard. Everything about the OS is designed for touch screen use. I'm perfectly content with Windows 7. :D

I still have XP on my old pc, and see no reason to upgrade. Of course, I still remember Windows 3.1 as a good OS! I do like Snow Leopard, it's what I use all the time now, but it seems more of a convoluted system to figure out.
