I've been messing round during the week trying to create this kind of thing...these are not my work...but I've been trying to emulate them...I'd like to think I am smart enough to figure it out myself but I think I am missing something.....the third on I post here will be my own attempt but not really the same...and it will most likely be the top one in this post...Blue with a gold trim...they are made from text files as I understand. Ideas anyone????

The middle one kind of reminds me of these fonts:

This place has a lot of motif type dingbats. Click on Dings over on the left to see the list. http://www.houseoflime.com/

im not quite sure what you are asking here

the first one looks a bit like an ankh

you say it was made from text ?
well you could use an U or a V and an I or a T and modify the letters to your need (rotate, bevel, etc)

akky: ooh, that's some lovely stuff!!! but it looks a bit tricky to recreate. i think yours (the top one, right?) looks really good, but it looks good in a different way. hmm.. do you use inkscape? if i had the patience to make all those paths and try to stroke them perfectly with a pearl brush i'd do it in inkscape rather than in gimp - it's usually easier to get an even result. please keep posting your attempts if you go on experimenting, it's inspiring me :)!

its not really the font I am after but the art affect that they have put on it...the one at the top is one I played with myself..
they are a bit like dings I suppose but what I want is to get the affect of having an 'embroidered affect with perhaps gold braid or jewels etc' so that they almost look like embroidered badges...that particular one of mine is from a system font....so I'll try to give a different example..so the below image is of a font...much the same type of thing as a ding...the idea is to turn an individual one into a vector image and then make it into something pretty ...so you type one of your choice in a large size and make it into something pretty.

akky: this tutorial got me started in inkscape (actually got me to download it in the first place, i can do a lot for a good paisley :)) and since it deals with how to stroke paths and distribute the brush evenly it might be useful for you.

They are just text embellishments is all but they have been fancified in PSP ...the ladies in a group I belong to have been making them wholesale and its getting up my nose that I cant emulate it... LOL..I'll try and grap a few more examples for you...

Now they are all just made from the text embellishments...butterfly text is obvious and others....and honestly you can even do it with fancy lettering as some have...
Anmal I really appreciate you posting that and I will take a look at it when time permits...maybe later this morning...
or at the weekend...I'm afraid work gets in my way sometime with these things...you'd think at pension age I'd be wanting to give it up but I love having the extra $

It looks like you've used the bevel filter. I'm wondering if bump mapping might be better for this.

All of them are very good, I can't decide which one I like best.
PS: It would be to your advantage to learn inkscape.

akky, I really like that deco.png. Looks like the satin stitch in embroidery.

ok what I have done here is saved the initial text as a brush... and used the brush for the basic image. Then I added mollys gold pattern to the outside and put the blue pattern inside using bucket fill/pattern. Then I went to GMIC/testing/samj/metallic. When that was done I put the red pattern fill in and gave it a small bumpmap and bevel

akky, i should thank you for posting this thread - it gave me something to occupy my mind with when i really needed a distraction :). i've been experimenting a bit with both outlines and fill effects and i'll post some examples - if you think they look anything like what you're after just tell me and i'll post you the xcf:s and/or general instructions - if two tea drinking gimpers put their minds to it the psp crowd should be eating dust soon enough ;)

here i just used the metallic colours filter on a form fill gradient. i didn't bevel or emboss or bump map or anything because i thought there was enough volume in the results of the filter itself. but i did give it a little extra highlighting.

here i used a pronounced bevel and a glass layer effect just as a change from the textile looks - i think it works out really well so i posted it, though my guess is it's the textile looks you're really after.

this is more like textile - silk or closely stitched silk thread embroidery. i used the metallic colours filter and set it on overlay, then i made some glass layers and a very small bevel effect.
