Text handling rethinking by GIMP architect Peter Sikking
here. There are 3 parts.
Gradient editor. No doubt it has become better in 2.8, but there is always room for improvement. I would like to have an easier to tweak editor, more accentuated nod-based (on canvas?) gradient editor (think of text editor but for gradients) and the ability of applying multiple gradients at once (like in Inkscape).

There was a study conducted last summer by a group of specialists showing that OpenCL has some issues, the major one being a high computation time with NVIDIA and AMD graphic cards. Besides, OpenCl has been chosen just because in fits well with GEGL and does not need a lot of re-coding, not because it is the best accelerator.
PSD and EPS are publicly documented, specs are available
here. Some Open Source Software have a better support of EPS and PSD formats than GIMP. E.g. Scribus, which does not need ghostscript for EPS import/export procedures. GIMP has to use gs all the time, hence, so many issues.
