Hey folks i had a brain fart. :) I also changed the TOPIC header :lol
How about we all name 5 plugins (no scm just plugins) we really would like to see in Gimp by default. Then vote (25 votes each) on the plug-ins named here that we find the most efficient. Then i will put together a ZIP file of all the ones we vote on for future members to grab.Someone else will have to create one for Linux distros though.
Try not to duplicate what anyone else adds to the list.We can add entries for 2 weeks. Then we vote.
RULES:
1) You get to name 5 of your favorite plugins.
2) No SCM files.
3) No duplications posted. So try and read through this topic thoroughly.
4) You get to post ONLY 5 no re posts from the same member.
5) All entries must be in by 2 weeks from today.
6) After 2 weeks you will be allowed to choose up to 25 of the plugins you like best.

What do you all think?

I will start..
LayerFX.py
Gimp-Clone-Tool.exe
PSPI.exe
Liquid Rescale.exe
G'MIC.exe

Rod that's a good list you have there already but I think Gimp is very slow to react to users wishes, actually I don't think they react at all.
I would also love to see a C++ plugin written for layer effects, just so we can have a better realtime display of what is happening.
I would like to have better access to gimpressionist via settings for brush size e.t.c in the pdb

Graechan this is for plugins that already exist and most of us have.Just name your favorite five and later we will vote and that will make for a decent zip package for new members to get a bunch of great plugins all at one time.
That is the purpose of this topic.

I like the user filter too Rod. Created a few standalone offshoots for the filters I like the best (the user filter allows you do do this which is cool). Another cool filter is, of course Mathmap. Still, at the top of my list would be G'MIC which you already listed. :)

Below presets get used often enough that I created presets for them with the User Filters built in ability to do so. :)

Inkrubber (used to darken blues and greens when setting the result to Value. Used most recently for this result.)
flutewaves
Triangular Mosaic
Copystar
Varsarely Mosaics

You've already listed my three essentials Rod:
LayerFX.py
Liquid Rescale.exe
G'MIC.exe

Although Mathmap would be really useful too.

If these plugins already exist, why should they be integrated in the official gimp?
Use them. Thats all. Or make your own unofficial gimp package.
Thats the way gimp works. And if someone wants to have a special plugin. Write it.
But don't demand the gimp developers for writing/integrating something. For free.
Gimp is Open Source. Load it, analyse it. And you will be very welcome to the circle of
gimp developers. Especially if you develop for windows platform :-)

At the moment, I am reminded of the following three plugins:

Furthermore, regarding the old filters that are no longer available, I wish it were possible to restore the nice original Alien Map plugin, which several years ago was eliminated for leaving only the more powerful (but slightly less intuitive) "Alien Map 2" plugin.

Yes they exist, but, they are not part of the GIMP installer and you have to hunt for them Onkel. If they would be made part of the GIMP installer, then life would be much easier. :)

wasn't the task to simply list a maximum of 5 plugins that we really like and the rule was we couldn't list what others had already listed? and it was never a question of getting the plugins into the official gimp builds, just to sort the best ones into a neat little bunch that rod kindly offered to pack up for any new gc members - or did i get it all wrong now?

my favorite picks have already been listed, but i also think one of the "add multiple guides" plugins could be useful, like the guides set plugin from GAT-tools.

1.BIMP - gimp absolutely needs a good batch processing tool, bimp is the best candidate
2.Separate+ - CMYK colorspace support is a must feature
3. Save for Web with batch option (or RIOT)
4.UFRaw
5.Liquid rescale (it was listed in previous entries but i'm listing here again just to underline the importance)

All listed plugins are C plugins and need to be ported to GEGL to be operational in GIMP 2.10.
That is the main problem with including any of 3rd party filters in the official installation package.
GAP and UFRaw are huge and need dedicated developers who would maintain them and fix bugs.
That is something GIMP development team can not afford right now.

GMIC will never be included in the official package. First off, it is written in programming language nobody from the dev team is familiar with.
Secondly, David does not want to be a part of gimp team (or gmic as a part of gimp)

@Rod 5 plugins isn't enough, why don't we make it 10? Maybe, maybe they will listen.
I have communicated with the dev team members including Michael Natterer, aka mitch, on several occasions
and can envision their responses. It would be like this: we agree, these plugins are great, would you be a person who maintains plugins;
or, would you contribute a code and so on.
I have little hope for making them do anything the users want. The same with the 'gimp feature wishlist' i started awhile ago, just out of curiosity mostly.

P.S. Back to list of 10. I would also like to see All_Layers_to_image_size (surprised it's still not outta the box feature);
Focus Blur; Mirror_Layers; LayerGroups, Frequency, Color, Luminosity separation plugin as well as some other plugins already listed here.

Thank you Anmal. :)
It seems this got way off topic of what i meant didn't it? I never said i wanted to ask anyone to add these to any installer i merely suggested we pick 25 or so of the ones we all use and know are valuable to Gimp. Then i will take the ones we vote on and make a simple easy package for NEWCOMERS to throw in their Gimp.Along with easy to follow instructions on all their uses.
Most of us here have used these plugins, know where to get them and things like this.I think putting one together like this will help out NEWCOMERS to Gimp to see the even more potential Gimp offers with third party plug-ins.

Never EVER did i say lets make or tell or request the Gimp devs to add them to the official installer.
I really do not know how this got so far off topic.I apologize if it was something i posted.

EDIT: TOPIC header fixed :lol

Sorry for having misunderstood your intentions, Rod.
The package like this already exists http://registry.gimp.org/node/27656 and hosted on SF, C-net, Softpedia and Google Code.
The newcomers can get them with GIMP installer. I think it comprises everything we have listed here and much more.
That is for Windows users. If you're going to make plugin packages for Linux and Max users (w/o installers, of course) it's
a different matter. Why not?
