Doesn't GIMPChat use PHP? Noticed this at Betanews a few days ago but was too tired to post then. :)

Yes, this site is written using PHP.

We are currently using PHP 5.3.22 on the server and have no plans to move to 5.5, yet. I know there are some compatibility issues with phpBB3 so I'm going to monitor the situation to see how the move to PHP 5.5 affects other phpBB3 users. I do understand the latest version of phpBB3 is supposed to fully support PHP 5.5 but this site is so heavily customized, it would be a major undertaking to covert.

It might very well be that GC could be migrated to PHP 5.5 with just a few minor changes to the code but I'd want to test on a mirror site, or at least determine from others who have moved to PHP 5.5 what the pitfalls are, before I'd commit to the update.

As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". :hehe

I agree Tux; haven't read what's so special about 5.5 to go there unless it speeds up the browsing process or add features like drag an image to upload as opposed to browsing for the name. No biggy; just wanted to see it it's worth the hooplah. lol

:)

PHP 5.5 is supposed to be faster and more efficient so I guess that is the big draw. PHP is a pretty big resource hog so 5.5 might be a good option for those who have limited server resources.

Good probably that you didn't implement 5.5 Tux; just saw this at Beta news for the 5.5.1 update (not even a month; lol). Lots of patched buggers. :)

I figure that eventually, I'll be forced to move to PHP 5.5.x by the webhost. That isn't in the cards, at the moment.

I am considering moving to MariaDB, which is a drop-in replacement for MySQL, with improved efficiency. I do need to optimize the SQL databases on here. There are several fields in the db that aren't used.

PHP 5.3 went End Of Life as of March of this year so I'd expect that sooner or later all hosting platforms will cease to support it.

PHP 5.3 Series End Of Life

But I do agree no sense in breaking something that doesn't yet need to be fixed. :D

Looks like they are still releasing some updates for PHP 5.3.2x.

http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.3.26

I guess now might be a good time to move to 5.3.26. I'll check with the webhost to see if there is any reason I shouldn't go ahead update it. Actually, we are on a managed VPS so I'll might just make them do it. :hehe
