Since when have there been more ads in this site?
I can live with the one at the top of the page and also ones that my pc make links to. But today I have noticed on a few pages that there are some in between posts!
I didn't see them as ads only as a 2inch high light blue area at first. Just noticed the (Ads not by this site) written on it.

There are no ADs on this site. It sounds like your PC is infected with one or more ADware viruses. It would really anger me to surf websites that are supposed to be free of ADs and see them anyway.

They may not technically be considered viruses but sometimes when you install toolbars and other apps, Malware like that can sneak in.

You might be able to remove these yourself, with one of the many anti-malware apps that are floating around but many times, it can be difficult. You might need to have a tech look at your system and get rid of that junk for you.

Disclaimer: There is one place on this site where you might see an AD and that is when using the Google search feature. Those ADs are generated by Google and I'm not going to pay Google $100 per year to run their search without ADs.

I've seen ads here once before when I wasn't logged in. I have no idea where they came from but they appear in between posts as sallyanne said.

My suggestion is to install this fine free product and delete everything it finds:

AdAware Free

Win32 downloader.gen is a really nasty trojan. It downloads and installs other viruses and malware, which explains why you have so many on your system. It can be difficult to remove because of it fights back against the anti-virus programs that are designed to remove it. It can can block or cripple the installation of those programs.

Have a read here...

Thanx GnuTux - I'll take your word for it and try to get rid of it now. I still have Spybot open.

Spybot is incredible. When I Have to use windows I always use that (and I never browse on Windows because I can't be bothered with the problems).

this is why I love linux. :)

Did you get rid of all the ADs that you were seeing on here?

Just for the record, there are no ADs at the top or in-between posts. You should not see any keywords in posts appear as links to ADs, either.

If you see any of these on this site, your PC is infected with Malware/Adware.

Many times if you are using Firefox you need only go to Help>Troubleshooting/Information> Reset Firefox and that usually fixes most problems with popup ads. They are designed to get you to buy products you normally browse for. For instance if you browse for camping gear a lot you will see tons of ads related to the outdoors. Many of these adwares hide within downloader/installers as browser plugins/toolbars and install themselves without you being aware of it. Whatever you browse will be placed into a database and relevant ads will be called. Some will even pop up ads when your computer starts! Some will not be relevant to what you browse for.
Just be sure and try as hard as possible to stay away from those types of installers. And if you have to install something with one be sure and read each window dialog very carefully. Many will have a decline or cancel button.
