Hi Gimpchat members!!! Love to be a part of a gimp community...never knew this chat forum existed till today :)

When I discovered gimp, I felt like this :gimp
I design various things on it for fun & for my friends. I have been creating designs and now I decide to print it for size 1mx1m. The printing company adviced that they want 300 dpi in tiff file. I tried various sites to find out the answer to create 300dpi image file but still confused as none of them tell you the right answer.

My question is how do I create an image that can be (printed 1mx1m) 300 dpi quality. I see pixels/inch & pixels all over. Please ignore my ignorance in dpi & ppi. I know its dots/inch & pixels/inch.

So, when I create new image, what should I put in image size (width & height) and pixels/inches etc on the drop down. Also, what should I put at the X & Y resolutions. I'm stuck :(

Help! help! Please :) Thankssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss a ton!

1m = 39.37 inches

39.37 inches at 300 dots per inch = 39.37 * 300 = 11811 dots/pixels

So you would need to create an image 11811 x 11811 pixels to get 300dpi for a printed image 1m square.

And welcome from my corner of the soggy UK

Kevin

Thanks Kevin. :)
So, I'm putting 11811x11811 pixels or 1m x 1m for width & height.
What should I select for X & Y resolution (pixels/inch)? 300 pixels/inch? Thanks :)

Hope u keepin safe this crazy weather! :)

Yes, 300 pixels/in. X & Y resolution must be equal.

Welcome!
I just accidentally hosed up a whole graphic project because I did it at the correct DPI and somehow did not get the correct print sizes...so be very careful to check and recheck when you create (and add any new photos/images) that they are all 300 DPI and that the print size is also correct. Otherwise you might have an image that is supposed to print at 7.7X10.2 / 300 DPI that instead prints at 4X6...

But then again, I doubt anyone else could have such a problem as I...

Another tip, do a test print and be sure it is correct and looks the way you want. There is a PDF function that will break your large images up and print them on 8.5X11 that you can then tape together...but it would let you double check before you go spend a TON on a huge print. Just select the correct "page" of the pdf and print off what you need to make sure your image will print right.
