Hello!
I am installing Gimp for a friend. Tired to download it from Parthas Place. Avast stopped download because of a virus Evo-gen. Odd. It may be a false positive but better not get on with.

Many people including myself have downloaded and installed all different versions of Gimp from "Partha's Place". It's a very well known and trusted download for Gimp, that to my knowledge has never contained any type of viruses whatsoever.
Also, "Avast" isn't the greatest anti-virus program out there. If you don't have a second or even third anti-virus program, you may want to think about obtaining another and running more scans.

It is a false positive. I'm sure it's been mentioned on Gimp Chat before and I have a portable gimp painter that also shows as a virus with AVG. Partha's is reliable and trustworthy and you can safely ignore the warning.

EDIT: It was me who mentioned it  http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8674

Wallace, I thought so too. Her son had installed Avast for her, so I couldn't uninstall it.
Erisian, yes it was false positive. I downloaded Gimp with my laptop and installed it for her.

I just wanted to be sure and was sure that you here would know if something had happened. Thank you for your answers!

3 days ago, when starting GIMP, AVAST also detected a suspected malware "Evo-gen". I had installed some plug-ins before and I thought it would be within them.

My experience with "Avast" software has not been a good one. I purchased an Avast Utility program, designed for diagnostics, maintenance, repair and optimization of my PC.
This program, if left installed. Would have done more harm the good. My attempts to uninstall it using normal Windows uninstall methods proved ineffective. Even trying to uninstall this software in Windows "Safe Mode" was unsuccessful. I also tried "Revo Uninstaller" and I still could not be fully uninstall this program. It took me several days to completely find and remove everything that was installed.
Needless to say... "Avast" has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I would not recommend putting any real faith in their software. I avoid all Avast products like the plague.
Disclaimer:
This is only my experience with Avast software, and does not reflect all and every users experience with their software products.

I found "GIMP" online when I was researching the best available free image-editing software. As GIMP was most often cited, I proceeded to download it only to be warned by my AVG that it contained a trojan and/or adware virus on each link I attempted to download from. :gaah
I found this thread when I went back online to find out if this was some sort of scam product. :hoh
Link Removed
(had to list it like this, because I was told it looked too "spammy" for a new user) ;)
It is TOTALLY clean and last tested in September of this year. It took FOREVER to download(almost 2 hours)! I am on Verizon MIFi, though, and my signal was weak at the time, so that may have been the only problem. Once it did download, there were no warnings or pop-ups of any kind.
I hope this helps anyone else having the same problems I did :gimp

Please do not attempt circumvent our anti-spam measures. We recommend downloading GIMP from http://gimp.org. If users are seeing false positives from gimp.org, their anti-virus software is broken.

First, best to install GIMP from link below. :)

http://gimp.org

Now, the site's currently down right now. Still, the links there are legit (or better be). :)
