I guess so, at the time I wasn't aware of any tutorial that was explaining this. They were out there, but I hadn't seen them and nor was I aware that they existed until I read this thread.
One of the tutorials that was linked to, was made in 2010, the other back in 2008.

I really can't see any difference in the animation, just the 3-D is different. They are both sweeeeeet.

I'm not really getting the popout effect with the dancing penguin, trandoductin . It looks like he's just dancing on a mat. To get a good effect, it seems there needs to be part of the object inside the plane of the photo (on the surface) and another part outside of that boundary. I'm not sure how to achieve this with the dancing penguin.
