Yes the Ode is a moving poem that is read then the last post is played on the bugle
The Last Post symbolises the duty of the dead is over and they can rest in peace.

I am posting this info for those that did not know the symbolic reason for the Ode and Last Post

I posted the full ode last year.

The blood of our dead, course through our veins,
strengthening bonds, but staining plains,
their feats remembered but not their names.
These are real lives... not just games.

Like Akky and Wallace and probably many others on this forum, I also served. Remembrance day or Armistice day commemorates the First World War. The War that was supposed to end all wars. Unfortunately , this was not the case. The USA has made the major contributions to most conflicts to date, but it it is easy to forget the alliances that have come from other countries. I include Australia, England, New Zealand, Canada, The Netherlands and others that do no not come to mind in the later conflicts.
In Australia we observe the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to remember and observe a minute's silence where possible and we sound the "Last Post". Graechan and SystemX, thank you for the full words of the Oath of Remembrance.
On Sunday, we, the local RSL (Returned Soldiers League) had a small small march and gathering to remember the sacrifices. It was great to see to the interest of the children cheering us on.

I know I'm a little late on this, but just want to say thank-you to those who served on this forum. I have two cousins in the military, one of which had served in the Sarajevo conflict (a co-worker also, who told me horrors today about it). Also, my grandmother was a "bomb-girl" (like the TV series), but unfortunately is scarred from one unfortunate pop to the face. My grandfather wanted to be a pilot, but bad eyesight put him to support group of aircraft.
I always make time to remember, and make sure my family does so also.
Thank-You
S

Support personnel (enlisted or civilian) have never recieved enough recognition IMO, there has been a common flaw in mass conflict that dates back to the caveman.
That being said - you can pull the trigger as much as you like, but without a projectile in front of the firing pin, you may as well throw sticks and stones.
To your grandparents and many others
