From Windows 7, Microsoft copied a lot of the KDE look, mainly the panel (except Win 8 that it has no panel). So another alternative for Windows users would just use KDE desktop...

I poor pity all those people who have Windows8.
My husband has it and he hates it and I won't go near it. Windows 7, I liked a lot and WindowsXP was good.

With Classic Shell (free; mine actually shipped with it but it was not installed by default; I did indeed install it), Win8 is now Win7 for me. Also, it boots faster then Win7 (and I thought Win7 was fast in the day). Every so often, I do a shutdown /p (run as administrator) to get a full boot; the regular boot is some sort of hibernate hybrid as I understand it (explains why booting is so fast). Have your hubby install classic shell (see link below; it's open source) and he will then love Win8.

Thanks lyle, i will see what he wants to do, he is by far the worse computer illiterate person I know.

The only reasons i hang on to Windows are the programs i have spent tons of money on that are not available in Linux.
