I've been enjoying the variety of GIMP chat banner tutorials and often enough they demonstrate text techniques I would love to learn.

Is there an index somewhere of the various chat banners and whether or not there is a tutorial associated?

If there isn't, may I put in a request to all you intrepid banner makers that it would be a valuable resource and learning tool?

The one that specifically caught my eye today was a burnished metal type thick letters with cracks and a bright light shining behind and through them.

If this isn't the right place to ask, can you point me to the right one? And yes, I tried search. It found two possibilities but neither was that one.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, I went and looked at all the headers in the banners2 folder (using the index) and found it. This one:

Edited to clarify: I was hoping for pointers to the techniques used to make specific banners rather than the ruleset for making a banner contribution. Specifically, I'd love to know how to make something like the one I linked above, but there are many that use techniques I don't yet understand, and because I love to stretch what I know, I appreciate anyone willing to share .

Here's a bit of help.
Basically all you have to do is add content within the dimensions of the template. In the GIMP Chat Banners Challenge look for other members attached XCF and download a few for inspection.

Oh, I'm sorry. I'll edit my message to be more clear. What I was asking about is if anyone wrote a tutorial on the specific techniques they used to put together their banners. I love learning from everyone because you all are so incredibly talented. But yes, having read through the whole 20 pages, I'm now thinking about coming up with a banner of my own to show my appreciation for the whole crew at GIMP chat.

I find this site inspiring, encouraging, and educational, all the best things in the world .

I found GIMP Chat by accident when searching to figure something out because I've been using GIMP for cover art. Because of hanging out here, I've done tutorials for fun, I've made personal art for gifts (even wrote a tutorial of my own because of one), and really grown as a digital artist.

That isn't a bad idea Margaret. Someone may do it but I think most of the Banners that are done are just what people have learnt here at Gimp Chat, using scripts/filters and also their own personalised art.
We would like to see some of your original ideas. Just use a different layer for each thing you add incase you want to change something. After saving it as a xcf to attach....then you can export it as a png to upload so we can all see.
You can do it. If I can do a couple you can.

It's the idea I can't come up with. I've posted a few of the things I've done from tutorials, and one of my cover art, but I didn't post the last because I'm not sure whether that's allowed. However, I definitely used techniques you all have introduced me to, including the layer mode and masking, that are the only reason it came out at all .
