I was going to point this out as well. We all experience unanswered posts on occasion.

I recently wrote a post with a tutorial on how to make gtk2 preference tool ... I did not received any feedback,

I read the thread but it was Windows only, so it didn't apply to me. If a thread or tutorial is Windows related only, it automatically excludes 35% of the visitors here. Aside from that, I don't use any other themes. I'm fine with the default.

If someone would give me $1 for every post that I did unanswered since I joined GIMPChat, I would be a happy guy Conbagui. I do appreciate the comments to do come no doubt, but sometimes I do things repetitively (binges; some here know what I'm talking about. lol) and don't always get additional comments. Just happy there's a forum to post such as GIMPChat. :)

Here ya go Lyle...

I edited my post and the unread posts date back to 2010.

So what is :ninja ?
is it when you're answering a post and someone gets an answer in before you?

For some of you, this does not mean anything. I’m not an expert in computing or a coder, I spent a lot of time in my computer at home and at work, but I’m not senseless. I know and I understand that you might not be able to go through all the topics here or that it not be a topic of your interest. For me, I’m satisfied to know that you have taken the time at least to look at the post, but for some new folks here need some encouraging words, like “thank you for sharing”. It’s call in my humane dictionary “Courtesy”.
We have to step aside sometime and think like human being and stop thinking like a computer. I don’t think like a computer, technology does not have any feelings. We have to be careful because it will reflect in how we treat our family and others. If you think like a computer, you become anti-social, the pc will become your dependency and like I said before, it will make you senseless, cold and stupid. I’m just thinking aloud. :smiley2

I very strongly disagree... for me, a short "Nice" is just a manual "Like" button, and this isn't human interaction... This is computer-generated statistics, not socially better than the download counters for my scripts. Real human interaction requires taking time to answer with comments, praise or constructive criticism.

Lack of an answer is also a way for the poster (and this includes newcomers) to get a feeling of the adequateness of the post to the general purpose of the forum (whether it is purely technical or "social"). A forum thrives because its users share some common interests, so there must be a way for posters to guess how far they stray from these. If we answer the same to all posts this feedback disappears and the forum will de-focus. We could also have a thumbs-down button but experimental evidence (see reddit downnvotes) shows that it doesn't really work, irrelevant posts just get below-average upvotes.

I won't make a special case for newcomers. GC is one among several hundred thousands forums and discussion groups, and they all work the same. Knowing how to use forums is part of general net-literacy. And most newcomers have been lurkers for a while, so they already know all the sharks in the fish tank :)

PS: by the way, coders have feelings too, and not only about proper indentation in Python programs. They just don't let their gut feelings blind them to the bare facts.

I know... but that's the coder's bane: you seldom hear from the happy users, and you don't hear that much from the unhappy ones :) The best compliment I ever received was from someone who changed PCs and didn't like the new... until the figured out that the missing thing was a little tool of mine that he completely forgot about but has been happily running in his PC for over two years.

But anyway the true pleasure is in the coding, publication is a by-product :)
