i think this would be the appropriate place to post this thread?

in this thread there is a long and (to me, at least) fascinating discussion on images generated by google's search functions. trandoductin posted a link to an online image generator based on this principle - and that meant i'll probably get no sleep tonight.

for me, the image generator in itself would have been fun, but the idea of combining it with g'mic filters and gimping pieces of the generated images into my gimp collages made it more than just fun, it made it a new and valuable toy for my imagination. i'm hoping more people will give it a try and post their results here - "raw" images from the generator are welcome of course, but what would be really interesting to see is how the generated results could be gimped.

I like all of these but particularly the Grand Canyon. This is one of my fractals.

erisian: favourite so far (of what you've posted, i know you have some awesome stuff in the making) is the fractal, but i liked what happened when you mirrored the deep dreamed texture too.
oldmangrumpy: suppose you'll be reading this in october then. nice one! what did you start with, a mandelbrot fractal? no, silly me, how could i not see it - it's a paisley!
sallyanne: love your results! the grand canyon is great as it is, but the bushes are wonderful. i like how the deep dreamed stuff went from creepy to cute when you just picked some of the "critters" and put them in among the bushes. nice job!

and do i have more to post? do prophets have beards - i'm going to try very hard not to drown gimp chat in my deep dremed stuff. i'll allow myself a little something now and then. here's one where i put the same picture through eleven times and saved something from each step plus a bit of the original. took a lot of layer masking! in the end i improved on it a little with some iwarping and smudging on the "face" too. i call it "young creature's first ball".

OK AnMal; been putting off running this until now. I fractal traced my image and then ran it through Deep dream (couple of times) then amplified the effect.

lylejk: you may very well get the award for most disturbing result for that one! the corners are okay, but the center of that image is nightmarish indeed. i'm going to fractal trace something too before i run it through deep dream. i'm just going to try all my other ten thousand ideas first!

that 11x one really showed some wild creatures.
and creatures in fractals are just too cool.

Why not another one. Took this image and ran it through a few passes, resized and added a few additional tweaks and voila.

Created a seamless texture and used it as a target for Sculpture Generator.

I like that one Lyle.
