OK; this time I created a convolution layer and colorized it before plotting. Used Wirefram option instead of dots as well. :)

Lyle, you're amazing!
BTW what or how do you make a convolution layer?

Dup, bilateral filter (G'MIC under repair), set to grain extract, then merge the layer. This layer then is your Convolution layer. :)

Nice Lyle.
Forgive my ignorance, but when you have the layer created as above where do you put it for the Convolution? G'MIC Convolve doeas not work with a reference layer, as far as I understand, but with a (user) formula.
Is there another Convolution filter different from Convolve?

...hmmm, just noticed you put this under "Scripts and Plugins": are you releasing a filter? good news!

No; used all layer properties to create the convolution layer. I ran bilateral filter preset (G'MIC) on top layer and set that layer property to Grain Extract. I then merge down. The result is your convolution layer. You can either then use Overlay or Grain Merge depending on how much an impact you want to apply to your target. :)

thanks, Lyle.
Played with the layers' modes and got a bit-crazy nice effect (nothing to do with wireframe, but I like it...)

Hope you don't mind the play, Diego. As you can see, using a convolution keeps the image from getting distorted as much. :)
