I've come to the conclusion that my laptop is just really slow when it comes to adding new plugins. All is good now.

this error happen when the filter is unable to apply the gimpressionist preset required.
Please check:
- whether you have gimpressionist running thru the gimp/help/plug-ins browser

Thank you dinasset for your plugin and your guidance. Everything was in the right place and although the presets were in the right place, they were in a folder (it really should not have made a difference). I took them out of the folder, ran BatchMod, restarted Gimp and voilà!

Very nice outcomes, Dalia, and glad you got the filter running.
Yes, gimpressionist looks at the preset's name as direct member of the "Presets" folder under "gimpressionist" folder (either in Gimp program path or Gimp user path). You may verify it just calling directly gimpressionist on an open image: you see the merged list of all presets it finds)

to test it remember to install:
- the script
- the 3 gimpressionist presets
- the 2 textures

from the message you get it looks the gimpressionist presets are not in place
