I noticed that Mahvin uses ofnuts' Generate Intermediate Paths to just create a black shadow of text.
While that script is great, I don't think that was its soul purpose, it's for where you need the steps in between.
Mahvin on the other hand was just trying to get surface area of the stretch from one path to another.
So i thought instead of Mahvin having to clean up the paths after they're generated or have to create many more steps in between to make it smoother, why not write a script that creates the path that covers the surface area between two paths.
so here it is.

See details and download, click here --> Select Area Between Paths Script For GIMP (for Mahvin) or maybe others as well.

Interesting. I like that it keeps the text paths and creates a selection for you of the combined paths. Also filling a selection from a path is always much smoother results. Thanks Tran. Another nice addition to GIMPs arsenal.

After feathering the selections i created from each path by 5 i get less jaggies. Then i ran unsharp mask on the two filled and then merged layers.

The path from which to deduce the selections to add are those created by path-inbetweener itself.

So this can be just a by-product of the path computations in path-inbetweener. I'll add the option.

Required a bit more than just an extra flag, so it has become a script of its own, see
ofn-paths-envelope.

right on ofnuts.
I hope you don't mind me adding a link at bottom of my forum's post to yours saying
"Alternately, more accurate than this script, you can use ofnuts' ofn-paths-envelope.zip"

Mahvin, you are producing the exact results I've been striving to achieve for some while, would you mind explaining what "touch up" steps you took please?

RJKD:

Once you have the selected area BETWEEN paths filled with a solid color, and then the front facing font selection filled, just take the paintbrush at 2px and run lines along the peaks and valleys, front to back. Then using the select by color tool (or fuzzy select tool) select each section and fill with gradient. It's a bit tricky getting the gradient to run as you known it should (lighting and shadows). There are other ways to obtain similar results (painting with gradient set at certain brush sizes, etc.) that might be a bit quicker. I'll try experimenting with other techniques to see what works best and fastest.
