Hello Folks.

I'm really happy to announce the release of a new major version (numbered 2.0.0) of the G'MIC image processing framework. As always, I encourage upgrading to this new version as soon as possible :bigthup
This version got major changes and improvements and is not backward-compatible with the previous branch (1.7.x). From now on, addition of new filters and bug fixes will be done only for this new branch 2.x.x.

More details about the changes and new features here : https://discuss.pixls.us/t/release-of-gmic-2-0-0

Binary packages for various plateformes are being compiled, and should be available soon, if not already.
I'm also preparing a quite long article about all the work done on G'MIC during the last 13 months. Should be published soon, somewhere :)

Enjoy !

First attempt.
The GTK version starts, the QT version does not, but there is no indication of the cause

GIMP Error
Plug-in crashed: "gmic_gimp_qt.exe"
(C:\Users\Diego\.gimp-2.8-full\gmic-qt\gmic_gimp_qt.exe)

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

Will try again after someone will do the installation.

@David

Gimp 2.8.22
Windows 10 x64
Installed GTK and QT (Zip Version)

Both versions are working as expected. What a great improvement in rendering speed and program features.

Thanks for all of the hard work put into the new G'MIC.

Larry

Reinstalled QT, I get the same error as yesterday.
No problem, I survive (GTK works)

fyi I use the "installer" version

edit: tried also with the .zip, same error

edit2: tried in another "clean" user I have to perform some tests and QT version works: hence it's a problem (which one?IDK) in my primary user environment

Thanks for the update, David. Just installed both gtk and qt and for the few presets tested, they both worked fine. Maybe it's just a perception thing, but Illustrated Tone Map preset seemed slower than I remembered but I could just be tired (2 14 hour shifts in a row; bushed I am. lol). :)

I cant get it to work. Neither the 64bit, nor the 32 bit.

Im on Win7 64bit and Gimp 2.8.18.

The error message says:
Entry point not found:
the procedure entry point "pthread_Setname_np" in DLL "libwinpthread-1.dll" was not found.

I don't use installers; use zip files. Maybe there might be an issue with the installers. All I can say is both gtk and qt plugins work for my 64-bit GIMP. :)

After reading your post i uninstalled G'MIC, downloaded the zip file for the qt and put it manually in the plug-ins folder.
Got another error message:

I solved my problem.
After many tests performed on both users (the primary and the secondary), double-checking all the links (recreated the (user).gimp-2.8 folder on both), I eventually discovered that the problem was the:
usergmic file under AppData/Roaming
cleaned the one under the primary user (well, copied the almost empty available under the secondary user), the QT version runs also on my primary user.
Anything which could be done (as a message I mean, when launching gmic) instead of a raw crash?
It was not easy to come to that point.

Thank you for the updates! Running Linux and used the QT version because that one is native for my system. Never tried the GTK version, so can't comment on that one.

Ah that is really interesting.
Any idea of the steps we could do to reproduce this problem on our machines ? So that we could fix that bug ASAP;.
Thanks dinasset !

David,
the problem is inside some pieces I didn't "convert" appropriately.
Removing the attached set from the full gmic.user, QT starts and all previous filters created by me are now shown.
Maybe you can try to add these pieces on the gmic.user of a test-user -you certainly have-; QT should not start (practically crash).
Even if something is wrong in there, IMO it would be nice G'MIC detecting the wrong syntax and send a message.

Fantastic dinasset, I've been able to reproduce the crash with your file !
We'll try to fix this ASAP.
Thanks !

@dinasset, Sébastien has found what was going on with your file.
You haven't specified a preview command when defining the filter, and unfortunately, this (valid) case was not managed by the Qt-based plug-in.
This bug will be fixed for the next release 2.0.1.
Thanks again for your report !

Thanks Ronounours.
I got the G'Mic 2.0 GTK version today that was installed as an Ubuntu automatic update.
(actually Mint Linux)
It was installed alongside G'Mic 1.7.8.
All OK. :jumpclap
