Well, this could be a new mix of yours.
I meant:
a- if you do not need to stick with a specific image, choose among images with texture in it
b- if you need to see the effect on a specific (flat) image, simply do a preprocessing step with std Gimp filter

Outcomes are very interresting but have you got an idea to compensate the lack of light on certain pictures ?

The first one is a promising process. How do you think to integrate the light compensation in the code ? May be with no flatten option to allow adjustements ?

Here is a try with voronoi effect as a preprocess and fake emboss as a second step and finally couloured emboss. I like it very much.

The filter is not a human: it doesn't now "where" to put the light....having a parameter is annoying.

Thank you Diego, here is the same one but with the Lyle's voronoi batch. The steps are the same but the voronoi effect leads to an awesome relief outcome.

Nice also the second one.
But let me say that just using simply ColouredEmboss (after an increase in contrast) produces very good outcomes.
