I am a Ubuntu Linux user and occasionally use Windows 10 (only when I need to)

I'm new here looking for a friendly place like the Google Plus Gimp community (which is ending in April) to ask questions and share GIMP news. I have also asked to join the new MeWe Gimp group in hopes it grows into something similar to the G+ community.

I'm trying out the new GIMP 2.10 and it is driving me nuts since it resides at the root level. I can not just copy/paste scripts into the appropriate directories since I don't have permission.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Welcome.
It would be nuts if there was no user folder, and there is.
You can copy/paste scripts and plugins just like in earlier versions.
The path in Ubuntu is /home/username/.config/GIMP/2.10/
