David: I don't think the water is overdone in any of the images, it looks a lot more like what we actually saw on that day than the original photos do. I think my favourite is your last one, where the texture ofthe ripples is so well defined.
Sallyanne: I love seeing the texture of the waves come out! Perhaps this isn't what photo editing normally would focus on, but the pattern all those ripples make is too beautiful to miss.
Dinasset: I love Your results really capture the drama of the Cornwall coast. Like how sharp those rocks really are and how threatening the Atlantic can look at times. I like how the wave image almost splits in two, nice touch!

Having updated my tutorial for colouring photographs (actually re-written), I decided that I ought to test it. So here are the before and after photographs of the Grand Duchess Olga Romanov!

I am curious how you achieved it. I have been using Gimp for about 20 years, so I still have a lot to learn.

It was pretty much playing but it went something like:

Added a layer filled with a peach colour, put it above the original photo in the layer stack, set it's layer mode to overlay and masked off the colour outside the rose. Made a new layer from visible and adjusted including increasing the contrast and a slight decrease to the opacity. Left the layer stack with the new-from-visible layer and the original photo layer visible.

When I saw the picture again in this thread, I thought she looked a bit pallid, so I too gave her complexion a bit more colour!
