I have Gimp-2.7.3 32 bit installed and it runs perfectly for me.Some scripts will not run do to deprecations but most work anyways.I now have it loaded with 935 scripts and 458 plugins and it loads within a 2 minute span. :)
Of course i have GURM running in it so it only loads about 80 brushes at start-up.
I keep Gimp-portable 2.6.11 around for quick launching tutorials.

But my choice is Gimp-2.7.3 32 bit regular install.
I am sure 64 bit runs just as well.

It seems to run very stable to me.
