Can anyone advise what i am doing worong?
1. I inport a picture click text A and change my font and size then move the letter over the picture til I get the bit I want, then I click Alpha to selection, then alpha layer mask. I then go to Edit, copy visible. I then click on my word document and clist paste and usually viola the letter i need. Today however its copying a squre or rectangle shape and its grinding my patients. Please keep this old lady sane and help me :tyspin

Hi Steph...
Try this:

1, Import your picture
2, Get your text tool in position with size and font to your preference
3, Click alpha to selection (make sure you have the text layer active - it should be)
4, Click the picture layer in the layers tool dock to make it the active layer (this may be the step you need)
5, Hit Ctrl + C (Edit>>Copy)
6, Move to your Word document
7, Hit Ctrl + V

Best of luck

I am thinking you probably need to clear the content after you select alpha to selection.
Then select the image layer - Edit>Copy ---- Edit>Paste as a new layer. Or image.

Does the picture being used need to match the image size?
Perhaps once the image is imported,
then doing a "layer to image size" will help?

Hi Steph,
Save the process you explained to us as a video and send it so we can check it.

Sounds like you still have the layer mask selected when copying, that's why it is copying the mask.
