I wanted to use Ofnuts plugins in samj Gimp Clang 3.0.4 in Windows 10 starting with ofn-bend-path.py but they don't appear when right-clicking on a path?
I checked with ofnut's explanations here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp3- ... s/general/ and with the console

I unzipped into the plugins folder:

But the plugin does not appear and "search and run a command" does not find:

I really like ofnut's plugins and scripts and this issue makes me stick with Gimp 2.10.38....

Why not try conversing directly with him to solve your issue, if it can be solved.

All the 2.10 plug-ins do not work in GIMP3.
They must be rewritten for GIMP3, which takes time ...

Some are ready.

Like Quietreader stated, you are trying to use older plugins not specifically designed to work with Gimp 3. Therefore, it would do you no good to attempt to find a solution, in another forum, anyway.

For the record, I've always found Gimp-Forum to be populated with friendly posters also. Two of the guys who run the site, Rich and Ofnuts, also post here. So, I don't think there is any kind of rivalry or competition for posters involved between Gimp-Forum and Gimp Chat.

Personally, I've always found Gimp-Forum to be more no nonsense, no fluff, no idle chatter type of help site that I prefer using when I have an issue. Gimp Chat, to me, is more geared to, as you say, friendships and sharing and giving each other encouragement or insight on how to improve their creations.

While the dedicated help section here is well visited, I've always had the feeling when visiting Gimp Chat that it isn't really the main reason for this site's existence. Gimp Chat seems much more heavily tilted towards the artistic side of Gimp and what can be done with it and Gimp Forum is the mechanic's shop where you make Gimp run correctly. This isn't an insult, in any way, just an honest observation and I could be wrong.

Just a comment.

Gimp 3 is very new and do not expect all the Gimp 2.10 plugins / scripts converted straight away. Some may never be converted, authors not bothered / moved to other things / ....

Keep a Gimp 2.10 for existing plugins like Ofnuts path utilities that you require.

For linux:
Mint 22 there is no python support for Gimp 2.10 - use an appimage 2.10 that comes with python 2, there are versions around. You do not always need the latest 2.10.38 , earlier version work just fine

For example: Using kubuntu 24.04 (much the same as Mint)
I have Gimp 2.10.38 from a PPA - no python but I need that for my scanner / gutenprint plugins occasionally.
I use a Gimp 2.10.38 appimage most of the time. That has python. ( Ofnuts Bend plugin is way better than Inkscape bend)

By all means use Gimp 3.x and the new features it contains. I use an appimage by choice. Beware of limitations. Gimp 3 .xcf files are not usually backward compatible with Gimp 2.10

Yes, I noticed that.

That was also going to be my suggestion. Keep Gimp-2.10 installed to run older plugins you like. Until they are updated to Gimp-3.0, .. if ever.
