Can't move layers in and out of folders

GIMP Version: 2.10.38
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 11
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

I've been using folders within my designs for over a year with no issues. I love them.

But starting today, GIMP will not let me move layers into or out of folders. I feel like I've toggled a setting somewhere, but have no idea what or how to fix it. Thanks!

Can you post a image of how you use Gimp to do that?

Do you mean layer groups? The icon for them is a folder.

Do you have any of your layers locked? I will see if this affects. Just tried, you should be able to still move them

Yes, I mean layer groups! And none of the layers were locked.

For example, if I tried to move the hearts layer out of the hearts & ribbons layer group, gimp wouldn't let me. I also couldn't drop a layer into the group either.

I restarted the computer twice, and the issue went away, but I'm curious what it was and how to fix it.

Have you tried the little Up/Down arrows at the bottom of the Layers dialog to reorder layers?

Also, this behavior almost always seems related to external interference with drag events on Windows,
especially when nothing in GIMP changes and a restart seems to fix it temporarily.

If it happens again,
I’d watch for any overlays/background utilities or apps that might be running.
