Hey everyone, so I recently got thrust into the world of graphics. I can do a lot with computers, ie: build, repair, upgrade.... However I was asked to create some graphics for a non-profit organization and I was feeling like a pre-schooler when I downloaded gimp. By day I drive Semi's but on my free time I play Eve and work on computers and such. I have been watching video's and have learned much already.

THanx everyone. I have been watching some of the vids.....pretty cool. Is there a way to bend the words? I know it may take time to figure it out but lots to learn in a short amount of time.

Yes, you can bend text. One method is to curve text along a path. O has posted a good tutorial here.

If you're wanting to learn specific things for the job, ask us what you're looking for and we'll show you some tutorials.

After that, if you're still wanting to learn GIMP casually, look for any interesting tutorial and have a go at it. Not so much to learn how to do whatever the final product of the tutorial is, but to learn little things while doing it. I've learned a lot of GIMP features doing random tutorials.

a cheap and easy way to do some text bending is to use the curve/bend filter ... it can do a quick job for simple and small changes, and will warp the text a bit for an interesting look.

You've also got the Text Circle script - Image/File/Create/Logos/Text Circle - which is pretty basic and you may have to run it a couple times to get the bend you want. But it's fast and simple. I use it to create bent text then apply other effects to make it look better.

I have used the bend filter before and it doesn't do what I want it to do, but I really like this plug-in. I don't think a person ever needs to go outside of GIMP to find new stuff. I know in my life tiime I will never learn them all.

That's true. I've been working in gimp for many years now and am still amazed at what can be done.

love that logo thing...I had never paid much attention to it before! What you say is so true Molly, there is so much great stuff in Gimp that I'll never tire of finding new goodies.
