I did just get 2.6.11 set up - time to play.... but I know I will want the best I can get....

How comfortable are you with installing Ubuntu packages and compiling from a terminal window?

I can do that - if I am following the info (directions) way back when I used ubuntu in 2008.... that's how you did everything.... some of this new stuff (other ways to install is a bit more confusing - since some things don't work in some things).... LOL

Hi Graechan,

Yes, this was discussed in another thread here. Unfortunately, this is an issue with GTK+2. Currently I am not aware of any solution to this.

Do you mean, it scrolls off the screen? Right now, your work around is to use the arrow keys and scroll.

Partha i haven't tried my graphics tablet yet.I got lazy..lol.

I had and reported a similar problem but maybe i forgot to say i found the culprit was a not standard font used for the menu, just changing the font solved (Garamound works well and in case of trable just sticl with a very basic font should solve

Remain a mistery how a not standard font may cause the scroll arrow to vanish but may be a good new that just change font may solve

I found a great way to change your themes for Windows and works for me. Trying to edit the theme is a bit complicated and time consuming just finding the dir the theme ASCII file is in (for me). So I went looking and this is what I came up with.

From styles and colors to fonts. Makes it easy.

OK, make sure all the requisite dev packages are installed. You should be able to do this from the package installer. Specifically, you will want to make sure that you have gtk+-2.0 (gtk+-2.24.8) and associated dev package installed. Then install glib-2.0-dev, pango, cairo, atk, gtk-pixbuff, libexif, libcurl, libcroco, libxslt, libxml2, libpoppler (and associated packages), lcms-1.19, libpng-dev, libtiff-dev, libjpeg-dev, libjp2000-dev, librsvg, libjasper, libpixman, libfreetype, libffi.

Don't worry, some of these will pull in others and so it's not as daunting as it looks.

The something like this will install gimp in your $HOME/opt directory. Note - completely untested. Make appropriate corrections based on errors you get:

I wanted it to change the font only due to a lot of the bottom hides underneath the task-bar with Win7. It worked. Rob is over at the site and looks to be staff. He can probably tell you.

I put in the code - and I am in home$ in my terminal - so how do I install the above files? I tried install - but it did not like that command..... I am trying to figure out what package installer it is so that I could find the code myself....

Currently changing themes in Gimp 2.7.5 is as simple as the following:
1. Find the theme you like in http://gnome-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=100
2. Let's call it "Worlds Greatest Theme"
3. Download "Worlds Greatest Theme" and unzip/untar whatever.
4. Copy "Worlds Greatest Theme" directory to .gimp-2.7/themes.
5. In some cases, the actual "gtkrc" file is not in "Worlds Greatest Theme" directory but in a subdirectory called gtk-2.0. Copy the gtkrc file to the main "Worlds Greatest Theme" directory.
6. Start Gimp. Open preferences and change theme.

Every Linux distribution has a package manager. If you are using Ubuntu (is that right?), open software center and search for the packages and install. Are you new to Linux? I would recommend going through some tutorials to get you started.

I used Linux in 2008 and now for about 1 week.... a lot has changed as well..... LOL before you installed everything via terminal.... now it is a combination in Ubuntu

I have been looking for tutorials etc.... even looking for code (to understand what I am doing...might be able to figure things out myself that way.... ) LOL
