Hi

I have been using GIMP for about 4 months now and I love it. I have created a web site around GIMP tutorials where I show CarveWright carving machine owners how to make 2D Height Map images to use as carving patterns. Pattern making requires the use of layers, Quick Mask, Guasian Blur, and Curves mostly.

Here is my web site: http://www.patternhelp.com

Looks awesome, just another reason that GIMP is superior to Photoshop!

Looks like you are on a mission Alan. Didn't see links to the CarveWright Machine you mentioned (might look it up later) but do like wood carving (both virtual and actual). Welcome here to GIMPChat and look forward to seeing some of your stuff. :)

I thought I was creating this topic in the Introduce Yourself Thread but I must of hit the wrong button. Anyways here is an example of a height map image that I had made with GIMP:
Image
I traced over a photo and put each peice of the motorcycle on a seperate layer. Then I blended each layer in together by assigning each layer a Mode of Darken Only.

then in 3D preview it looks like this:

3D preview is a function of the CarveWright Designer Import Software
