Installed it on my experimental install a few minutes ago.
Works ok AFAIK.
I installed from git yesterday but although it worked ok it showed lots of memory leaks.
Gegl especially when using contrast/brightness control.
That's been fixed.
Gerard.

Hihi, yes, he is... So was I, so I updated the dependencies, because Gimp 2.8 depends on newer libraries,
and, yes, it worked. I compiled a funcional windows port.
But I will wait until 2.8 release, I did it just for testing the functional environment.

Same here. I also noticed that it required the newest builds of GEGL and BABL plus a few other dependency libraries needed to be updated. I was able to compile a Windows port also but with libintl-8.dll problems again.
I really need to figure out whats going on with that before i can release anything myself.I also need to add libpoppler to my environment. :)

I was also able to compile the new version of TITO (Text Info Tool), and ran into the same problem...libintl-8.dll

I don't see anything new other than the splash window (obviously more bugfixes). Is there some specific issues you are having with the current version on my website? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Partha

Rod,

Update your compiler to version 4.6.x (or even 4.7.x) and it will go away. Let me know if you have further issues.

From the release note no any change that may interest users except changes in libraries that may introduce new bugs without adding any new function or offer any advantage to new users:

the only change that could be of some interest about use of openCL it is NOT implemented (are implemented some basis to allow to have it in a undefined future)

quoting the presentation :
Quote:
This means that OpenCL support (hardware acceleration through multi core CPUs and graphics cards shaders) is going to be available for operations – although only theoretically, because OpenCL is not actually used yet

So i really can't see why normal users may have interest to try it since it give nothing more than last 2.7 but may introduce new bugs (because the use of brand new libraries no yet tested at least never on Windows )

Rod,

That version should be fine. If you wanted the 4.7.x version, you can try
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w ... b/4.7.0-3/

Yes, on the 2.7.6 portable, there's still the weird chunky artifact effect when panning, also it's very slow, and sometimes the preferences window doesn't work properly, so that I can't change the folders.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check to see whether these have been fixed.

There was also this thing where gimp crashed every time I tried to upscale a large enough image file... this same thing also occured on 2.7.5. This however stopped happening when I went to the environment settings and increased the tile cache, and the maximum undo memory.

I may be talking out of my ass here, but could it have something to do with the memory leaks reported in the 2.7. versions? Which should supposedly be fixed in the 2.8.RC...

Hard to say dd.
It depends on how much RAM is available and how many times the program allocates new memory.
Memory leaks are caused by allocating memory and not returning it to the heap when finished.
I started Gimp (both versions ) in a console to see the messages and didn't see the leak messages in 2.8RC.
Gerard.

So, some people already sucessfuly built Gimp for windows?
in http://graphicall.org/gimp there is a generic place to upload binarys for Gimp. Its been established by the blender comunity, but because of the lack of something similar for Gimp, they also set up slots for Gimp, Inkscape, and the more Blender-related Yafaray and Luxrender.

Would be nice to see this in use more often in the future.
