i found weird how the forum resize the pics:
.first the original image is loaded and displayed at the full size image,(so if is a 3MB all 3MB should be loaded )
then is shrinked down.

But if the original has to be loaded at full size, then anyway there is need to wait the same time for big images to be displayed, even if the result is quicky scaled down

and also for the bandwith i can't see the advantage

will be not better cache the scaled version ?

GnuTux made it so that very large images that would stretch out the thread would automatically resize so that the image and the thread page wouldn't have to be scrolled from side to side to view it. Once a too large image is in place, the whole page of the thread results in trying to view the image and read text by scrolling from side to side without that feature in place. That's something I find very annoying.

Clicking on the image enlarges it and also it can be sized to full screen. It's not a thumbnail and it is large enough to see some of the detail in the image.

I'm not sure far down they go but I believe it depends on your screen resolution.

I personally love the feature. I agree, it is somewhat of a surprise when a large image comes up then resizes.

I think as you explore features here in Gimp Chat, you will find other neat surprises lurking about. GnuTux is definitely a wizard at modding the features.

You can if you wish place your images in a "spoil" tag also so they load easier for viewers.

O explained the process pretty well and the reasoning behind it. The size was chosen due to many members using a screen resolution of 1024x768.

I do understand that it looks odd when it initially loads the image at the native resolution and then scales it down. Perhaps there is a better way to achieve that without displaying the full size image at all. Thumbnails do just that.



I'll take a look and see if there is a way to easily achieve the scaling down without initially displaying the full size image.

well that was my point. i suppose will be better cache and display the scaled version, and the big only if required

Well better only for user with slow connection and for use of bandwith

But maybe there is no any problem i didn't see nobody complain about pages too slow to load ..
so maybe we may stick to the "if is not broken don't try to fix it " principle
