Specally the Brush-Size-Slider is badly configured -> i want the logarithmic scale back.

I didn't like the new sliders when I tried 2.7.6. They're almost impossible to get hold of with a wacom. Any chance of a portable anyone?

Ok, I just tried 2.7.5 and drawing works fine there. On 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 both, drawing is impossible - it lags up horribly, the screen updates in small nudges so you can only paint if you do it veeeeeery slowly. And when I try to scroll/pan it just goes nuts.

But 2.7.5 works pretty ok, although the panning bug is still there it's not as bad. So whatever is wrong must have been introduced in 2.7.6 (or the windows version of it).

Does no one else experience these problems with the latest versions?

I added to this bug 645345 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi? ... management
I am on Linux but 2.6.12 didn't have this problem.
I hope this gets corrected soon.
Gerard.

Hey, you know what?

When I turn off colour management from the display filters, 2.7.6 works pretty well. Neat!
The moment I turn it back on, the lagging and chunkiness returns. But without it, I can draw just as well as on 2.6.

Thanks for the tip gerard.

OK folks; thanks to 32-bit plugins back compatibility feature, I got PSPI (and all my cool plugins such as Impressionist, EyeCandy 3, and GML Matting) working as well, thanks to Graechan, Mathmap. Still can't get Liquid Rescale to work per another thread, but maybe someone here who's installed 2.8 rc1 has it working and can share what steps are needed to get it to work. I think the problem is a library issue; remember reading somewhere that that particular library changed so maybe a new compile of lqr 64-bit is required using the new library. Anyway, actually quite pleased with the 32-bit backwards compatibility feature. Haven't tried Filter Factory Convertor yet since it requires a lot of files placed in a bunch of different placed, but eventually I might give that one a go too. 2.8's been more smoother then I thought. I know I said I wasn't going to wait, but since Graechen figured out how to get Mathmap to work (which was the only reason I was going to delay installing 2.8 64-bit in the first place), I had to give it a go. :)

Just wanted to share my experiences so far. Got (thanks again to Graechan) Mathmap working, and, thanks to Samj, G'MIC. Added a few more plugins from Partha, but I still can't get LqR (liquid rescale) to work. Just installed a 64-bit version of the user filter (http://registry.gimp.org/node/10902#comment-9040) and it works great. Pretty much got all PS plugins I wanted to work to work too (GML Matting, Impressionist, EyeCandy 3, etc.). I noticed on one of the threads that folk were having problems with tiff export. I verified that that is still a bug, but to be honest, I don't even use tiff anymore. Still, I do see some bug fixes that will need to be patched soon. Also, if anyone got LqR to work with Windows 64-bit GIMP 2.8 rc1, please let me know. :)

edit:

To add to the bug list, when you export to jpeg, the file size indicator is stuck at 1.3G (G being gigabytes; lol) but the exported jpeg is fine. Also, both Graechan and myself found out that the User Filter refuses to save the guf directory path so you have to do this everytime you use the filter (that just purely sucks). Again, I know this is a release candidate so patience I have; just happy we are now talking about 2.8. :)

Liquid Rescale works okay in 32 bit for me.Windows XP.
I gave up on Userfilter in Gimp-2.7 because of the folder problems. All 2.7 and beyond seem to falter for me with it.
Now i just stick with Filters Unlimited and Filter Meister.Same filters less headaches. :lol
Actually Filters Unlimited i have loaded with 2,600 filters so i am not too sad.
Maybe someone can contact the author and ask for a c src for it.Then re-compile it for 64 bit.
Same with Liquid Rescale.Probably needs to be compiled with the actual Gimp-2.8 pkg-config.
ie.. compile Gimp-2.8 then compile the LR plug-in using that gimptool.
I would ask Partha after, or if he compiles the RC version.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread to sing the praises of the new version of GIMP. Anyway, this is why I like brush dynamics. Created a circular path and stroked the path. The brush was a 20 position gih brush; changed it to a single layer gih because of brush dynamics. Not saying there will never be a reason to created multi-layered rotational gih brushes; may want to control the limit of the angle for whatever reason. Still, brush dynamics is a game changer for me. :)

Thanks Erisian. Used ofnuts unclose path python plugin and a machine font to create the paths for this one. Then, of course, stroked the resulting path. :)

I want to install and use this new 2.8 version but I don't even understand what you guys are saying in this thread. Compiling and all that stuff. I am thinking that I will wait until the next stable version comes out on the gimp.org site with the installer for windows.

The windows installer for Gimp-2.8 Release Candidate is available from the developers already.
In my opinion not stable enough.
Keep in mind it will un install your gimp-2.6 version. I have heard you can just re install Gimp-2.6.12 after 2.8 installs and all will be fine.

I am waiting for the official Gimp-2.8 stable version also. :)

Re-installing GIMP 2.6.12 is no big deal. Not sure why they felt in necessary to un-install 2.6 so long as you keep the 2 programs in their own unique directories. Anyway, before I hit the sack yesterday, I extracted this fish; easiest extraction that I've ever did. Only a few additional touchups needed. So much more happier with the new forground extraction tool. :)

I don't know.I tried it with partially transparent selection on hair and it simply doesn't work with them.It is more accurate yes but no where near as good at partial transparent pixel selection as the new foreground tool in RGGJAN's version.

I did install Gimp-2.8RC1 and then re installed Gimp-2.6.
All i had to do to fix Gimp-2.6 after was reinsert the correct gtkrc file for my Aurora theme and i was good to go.That and for some reason i had to re add some 8bf links.

I started Gimp-2.8RC1 and found 7 plug-ins wouldn't fire.(including PSPI)
So i removed them, and replaced them with PC's friendly version plugins (all except PSPI), and that worked.
What was a bit strange was when i placed the PSPI exe back into the plugins folder and fired up GImp-2.8RC-1 it found all my adobe filters. :lol (i wasn't aware that my pspirc file got copied but it did).

So now i have them both working very nicely.
Oh by the way that libgimp-wire error was from an arrow creator script written in python.
I am still trying to get it to work.

Your right; wonder if you can just get the RGGJAN plugin; should be compatible with 2.8. :)

You can but it's hard coded into Gimp-2.7.3 so i do not know if its possible to just compile the tool without the whole Gimp programs libgimp files. You see each Gimp program uses its specific libgimp dll files
libgimpwidget
libgimpmath ect...ect...ect

So i am not sure. Partha has the src and it is available online.Perhaps i will do some experimenting. :)

Yeah; re-installed RGGJAN portable (had un-installed it when I was doing cleanup a few weeks ago even before GIMP 2.8 install) and RGGJAN hand's down is superior then even the new implementation of SIOX. Still, I do have GML Matting (free version that I had for several years now) and it works with PSPI but RGGJAN is much faster to work with imo. Have plenty of hardspace for RGGJAN so will keep it along for now. As a side note, I did post a request to Partha at his site to see if just the plugin could be compiled and if so, where to place the necessary files in order to work with GIMP but it doesn't look promising. :)

I think that replacing these files within the RC src and recompiling Gimp-RC1 will work. :)

From the RGGJAN website, the problem is that he did not write it to use GEGL. He also found a bug in his algorithm and has redone it. I seems that he is pretty far along now and with the help of his mentor, he is integrating it into GIMP now.
